question... i have a mega 3t bl motor sitting around and wanted to see if i could use it. i know the stock motor is a 400 size but it seems like the himax's are the way most people are going. is this to cut weight? has anyone tried running a 400 size bl in theirs?

hi
himaxx and hackers seem to be what are listed as being used here but i know other motors would be fine too , ide like to run a outrunner , do you know the kv of your motor or a link to it , you need a 48 pitch pinion and the himax and standard zoom motor shafts are 2mm but i think if a 1/8" were used it would be fine any thing in a bl thats lighter than the stock 400 should be an improvement as long as the kv is in the right range

The Pinion , shaft size and weight is the downfall to the Megas. I/8 inch shaft . I had to drill out the pinion for a 27/13/3 Aveox with a KV of 3400 and its ok(2Heavy). The shaft on the Mega is bigger than the Aveox and it Barely worked drilling out the pinion. I just got the Himaxx 4200 But havent tried it yet.
Let us Know if you have success with the Mega, I have about 5 of em sitting here.

hi HeLiFiEd
thanks for the link , my stock motor is 1.135" so the mega would fit without cutting the frame 3000 kv sounds like its in the ballpark , since you have the motor it would just be fitting a pinion to try i would try it and see , i dont know if i would buy the motor to try it but since you have it allready give it a try , panem has tried a axi 2208/20 ,i think its 2000kv and he is running a 17 tooth pinion

pitch range

I don't understand the limited pitch range??

are you able to run with such less pitch and accomplish the same moves becuase the headspeed is higher?

why do most people like to run +10 , -10?

is it so the motor does not bog down??

from the video it looks like all it needs is -6 to +5
what happens if you have more pitch?

I think the zoom is limited to +7, -7

I am having trouble with my hornets pitch range..
but I did just buy the zoom and want to set it up to fly like in the video

hi dave
i havent heard anyone claiming +10 -10 yet , you'de need some serious torque to not stall the motor, the manual says +7 -7 as you know and the guy in the vidio is running +6 -5 or +5-6 i would guess because he has the headspeed cranked up with that 2024-4200
himaxx motor , so he's not that far from the recommended pitch settings
