Now the OS 50 is starting to wear in nicely I was wondering how you go about setting the bottom end properly, I have noticed that although the engine is running sweetly at hover speed, at idle its a little rough and sometimes cuts. How do you know when the bottom end is right.

Also I have noticed that when I run a full tank the engine runs rich as it gets past halfway it tends to lean out a bit as you would expect which i combat by dialling in a little more pitch and less throttle on the FF8 however as the tank gets to the bottom and the header starts to empty the engine starts to slow down as though getting richer is this normal I would expect it to get leaner and therefore run faster

Why does it run leaner sometimes more and sometimes less?

First you have to set the high end correctly in order to get the right bottom end. Once you get that set then what I do is to get it rich and try to lean it out until it runs at the lowest trim setting on my transmitter. Then I richen it 1/8 of a turn. From what I hear you might have to richen it more with the os 50 to get the midrange right.

An engine should usually lean out toward the end of the flight because of a reduce in pressure with fuel. A pumped engine reduces this. That is partly why I try to keep my settings on the rich side.

An engine does not run faster at a lean setting. The engine could be leaning to an optimal mixture where there is a correct amount of fuel mixed with the air to produce as much power as possible. That is the point where an engine runs its best. When it gets less fuel into the mixture you loose power and that is known as lean.
