Flying a R50v2 w/JR500 gyro. First few flights the tail was solid. I switched fuel brands (both 30%) and my batteries were getting low. I went back up and the tail started walking clockwise.

I figure this could be caused from either the change in fuel or the batteries getting low. If I had more time tonight I would have charged the batts. and checked it out but I ran out of daylight. Are gyros effected when batteries start getting low? I have heard that the needle setting could effect the tail as well and thats why I bring up the fuel issue although I dont understand exactley how it works.

There has been a lot of posting lately about gyros and low batteries. Best recommendation is to not fly with low batteries, ever.

As for the tail walking, I would think it is the switch in fuel brands. Not sure I completely understand why it happens. Seems with a given RPM and pitch setting the torque would be constant regardless of the amount of power the engine is producing.

I guess if the engine rpm is bouncing up and down very rapidley it would make sense that subtle torch would be produced and would put pressure on the tail in small increments. What I don't get is how it would fool the gyro. There are a lot of things that I don't understand I guess and if tweaking the high needle is gonna fix it I'm just gonna put this one behind me
