I have two questions about blades:

Can I temporarily use 680mm blades?
What is the longest blade you can use with the stock tail rotor?

Thanks,
-Dave

OK

Yes 680 will work. You need to set up a little more pitch like all you can get but it loads the motor a little less than 700 especially if you goy yhe 15 tooth gearing. I ran them and 700's with the 15 tooth pinion and it was ok 680 was better.

14 is the new stock configuration. The 15 if you don't crank on the collective is nice with 700's

I have 120 blades on the tail monster grip !! Lots of clearance clarence
roger doger !

720's clear easy with 120 tails. This baby is streched OOOOUUUTTT.

Yep...

the tail boom on the gasser is actually 20 MM longer than the glow Max is........you can hang them on with no concerns......

Chris is right.....those 120's are BIG BITE on the tail......

I just flew with a set of 720's with 110's on the tail, it flys smooooth!! The blades load up fairly quickly though...(Ive got the 14tooth pinion...) but as long as Im conscious of the blade loading, it seems to fly pretty nice!

I'm building mine now and I have 115s and 720s for mine with a 90 tooth main/14 pinion for a 6.42 ratio.

Raymond the 6.57 would be the best choice for that blade combo.

Stock

88 main / 14 tooth pinion......6.28 is stock
90 __________________ 6.4
92___________________ 6.57 (will require some lovin from your dremel to open the slots in the frame.....

I currently have 6.28 in mine.....on 700mm Rotortechs. Does fine for me ! (oh, and a couple of "friends" that have played with it as well.....)

Payton, I'll keep an eye on things and see how it goes with the 90 tooth and the 720's. I don't fly as hard as you so hopefully after it gets broken in and the power comes up a bit it won't be so bad.

I have some MAH 710's I can try if I really dislike the 720 RTs. Hell the way James PMAX with the YS80 was pulling around those 720's I really wonder if it's going to be a problem?

Throttle changes...

If I remember well, reading a post by Bill Meador, he stated that the gasser is much more sensitive to changes in blade lengths, etc, as they affect mixture settings and throtle curves.

Would it be correct to say:

- if you change blade sizes, you better have a governor to keep the engine properly loaded.

- you can also expect changes in mixture setting

Now as far as mixture settings go you could either:

- firmly attach the heli to an ironing board or some type of heavy contraption, to keep it away from ground effect (higher than one blade length), and stay under the heli while it spins at WOT and adjust your high mixture --- is this advisable?

- use the GV-1 to adjust the mixture automatically - has anyone done this with the Zenoah?

No need to do all that, besides, its dangerous to tie a heli down, and try to adjust mixture...

I'm writng up something now, and will post later on
