Absolutely awesome - what a great project. What will you power it with? How long do you expect it will take you to complete? Who is the kit manufacturer?

Details

Here is the scoop. I was at the H.E.L.I. fun fly in New York a few weeks ago and my buddie Mr. Green dropped by with one of the "New 47s from Hirobo, After close inspection, I just had to have one. After chatting with Jeff, he informed me there were a couple going to hobby shops. Two phone calls, and 5 days later I had to leave work early to take a peek at my new heli. The kit is wonderful. The fiberglass work on the body is out standing, very detailed. Like every Hirobo I have assembled, the parts are all marked in assembly bags. The instructions are typical scale Hirobo. The instruction book is 79 pages with a 10 page supplement that adds a few corrections for typos. The kit comes with a digital mixer and 3 axis gyro which work together and will be something new for me however the assembly instructions give a good starting point for adjustment. The kit also comes with an exhaust header and tuned pipe, a whole s&%t load of blades, and 4 sets of markings, US Marine, Navy, Royal Air Force, and Japanese Ground Self Defence Force. I will power it with an OS 50, and get this, 7 digital servos. I hope to have it in the air for its first test flights, without the body, in about three weeks. It will be at Helis Over Delaware, hopefully complete, as an MH-47E with all the trimmings. I am looking into installing a cargo hook for sling work but will have to see how that goes. As you all know you never really finish a scale helicopter. It is just like the full scale S-76 I work on, always in a state of maintenance. I will keep you posted and will also keep the pics comming.

See my gallery for todays build. So far it's going together well. Was able to complete the frame. Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow. Monday will likely be the next big build day. More photos to come!

Work gets in the way of everything doesn't it? Looks like you got a lot done for one day. Do the real CH47's have main masts at that great a different angle from each other? Too bad the YS .50's aren't available yet. What is the blade length of each 3-bladed assembly? Did the blades come in the kit? What transmitter will you be flying this with? An explanation of the digital mixer and 3-axis gyro would be appreciated as I believe this must be the key to controlling the RC version.

Thanks for including us in your build. I'm packing the pennies away right now!!!!

If I rember right the main mast. on the fwd xmsn is tilted forward 7 degress compared to the aft shaft on a "full scale" 47.
I have the pleasure of working on them/with them everyday at my bill paying job.

CH-47 UPDATE

Its a good thing I have a wonerful lady. Friday when I got the 47 to the house, I plopped it on the dining room table, got up at 8 am Saturday morning, and worked the build till 8 pm. After my job required my services for about 4 hours Sunday, (friggen job) again I plopped down at the table to build away. Ro didnt even ask me to clear the table for dinner. What a girl. My thought were that it would be in the air in a few weeks without body. Well guys it looks like this weekend will be first ground runs and if everything goes well I may get a hover in Sunday. As for the kit itself. This thing is a work of art, from the mechanics to the body. I hope I will do it justice when complete.

Woman/Hat

Sorry about the hat guys. I fly a R50, which is a great machine, an just happen to have that hat on due to a bad hair day. I have several flying hats and that just happened to be the "Hat-O-the Day" Dr. tim, yes I will be there with both scale ships. As for the woman, I struck gold on this one and I meen the mother load. Not only is Ro intrested in my hobby but she encourages it. In fact she gets sim time while I work on helis. I just might have to buy her a heli someday soon. Kewl.
