What's the best 50 heli. I've a Raptor 30V1 and there's no point in upgrading to a 50V2. It's gonna work out cheaper to buy a 50v2 kit.

My resulting 50 is going to be upgraded to the max i.e. full metal head, carbon blades, skids etc, etc.

I can either get a 50v2 kit and sell the engine tt50pro (cus you got to have an os) and head parts and tail rotor parts, etc, etc. Could get a quick becuase they are mostly metal and would work out cheaper?

I just dont know what to go for? what's the best 50?

I would choose either a R50V2 or EVO50.

some of the guys at my club fly the Hirobo Evo 50 and they say it s a great heli and great for 3d and as a runner to FAI. This all depends on your set up. Its reasonably priced and it looks very sturdy and light.
I have a raptor 50V2 with all the cnc bits and it flys well , but if you are thinking of upgrading your 30 size to a 50; I would consider buy a new heli before upgrading you might find only a small difference in the price and may well be worth buying a whole new one.
PS Do get an OS rather then a TT well worth the extra expense.
happy flyings

I have great experinces with the R50. It flies really great and man this thing can take a real beating. The crash cost is real low. Plus a lot of hobby shops carry more Raptor parts over any other heli.

--------So that's what this switch is for!!!

Raptor 50 or Evo 50. Both fly and build pretty well.

I upgraded a V1 30 to a 50 for $90 + the motor. If you are going the metal head route, just use the V2 head parts.

When you find a R50 V2 kit for under $100.00, you let me know.

yeah raptor 50 or evo 50, both are great heli's, only thing to choose between em is the parts cost really, the raptor is a little less expensive.

also dont waste money blinging it out, all you really need for wild 3d is a metal headblock, a metal washout and a set of faster flybar paddles, the MA white 20 gram 3d paddles are good, everything else is just dressing.

Yes but you only upgraded to a 50v1. The new v2 kit has alot more to offer. Thought about it thou. Just buying the parts required but you get alot more in the kit. e.g metal swash, autorotation pulley, bigger fuel tank, header tank + everything in 30 to 50 upgrade.

Cheers for your input thou

I gotta say, the Gaupner starlet 50.

Even stock standard right out of the box its incredible. Ive had 3mts of incident free flying with mine and couldnt be happier

Its personal choice, But if your planing an upgrade, The 50 chassis is also 60 capable at a later date (not that its lacking as a 50)

but even better news is that theres a member here with one for sale.

"Ol martin" mailed me recently offering me his as a spare after a "sudden learning opertunity"!

Unfortunatly for Martin he's located in one of the few places in the world where theres a parts dead zone and has decided to down grade to the local helishops range for expediency.

I had planned to buy it myself and mail Martin accordingly ( now that Im back on line ), but things have been particularly tight financially recently, and I have a slight aversion to asking him to wait for me to afford a genuine bargin .
Much as I'd like a second starlet I'd be more happy to see someone else benifit from Martin's offer and help him get back in the air whith what ever his local shop actually do bother to stock. (Particularly since my own local H/S is a gaupner stockist where I can reach for parts or a second heli any time as funds allow).

In the spirt of fair play, I won't hog the deal if anyone else can afford it before I can. Though to be fair Martin is not asking much considering what is worth, he just happens to be askin more than I can lay my hands on at the moment

From Martin's mail
---------------------------------------------------
"
As said before, I sell my Starlet 50 because spare parts here in Norway are very expensive, not because I have damaged it totally. But you have to know that it need some new parts to fly again:

The flybar is bent, and one of the flybar paddles missing.
The main gear is broken, but i have an extra (new).
The tail boom mount is broken.
The main rotor blades are missing (damaged in the crash).
The front part of the sub structure is broken.
One of the alu. landing skids is broken."
----------------------------------------------------

All in all I'd call that a minor pain in the ass and a trip to the local H/S, but I guess its different when parts are'nt easily available in Norway

mail him if your interested, Otherwise (if he can wait till I have the folding) I'm planning on buying this baby off him.

LOL, What can I say to that.....Noodles?

Gaupner are not disputed as a quality and respected manufacturer,

But what the hell. I'll bite anyhow for the fun of it,

I guess I don't see many Mercedes Benz entered in the local demolition derbys either, ( a lot of Volvos show up though)

I gotta admit that flying a Gaupner has a serious drawback, Other flyers seem to freeze you out thinking your a Snob or something.. I just put it down to Envy nowdays . I guess looking like a works team when ariving at a local track meet would get the same vibe.

Where is this ole flying field of yours and if I ever find my self in Sweeden, I'll try to drop by with a starlet for your approval

If you crash often enough, then definitely get the raptor.. you already
have a raptor and most of the parts are the same..
