I have spent some time using KC’s to help find some motors that would be appropriate for the CP for high-powered aerobatic flight. I used a Phoenix-10 ESC and a TP1320 G2 3s LiPo. One important parameter is the motor heating factor that is in Watts per oz of motor weight – the higher the number the hotter the motor. Normally anything above 10 will run very hot and definitely needs a heat sink and plenty of cooling airflow.

I can run other motors that you would like to look at if I have the motor constants.

The following data was computed for 100 w/lb for a flying weight of about 12.5oz. I limited my search to motors of 50g or less.

Motor: HiMax 2015-4100
Motor weight (g): 48
RPM drop from hover (%): 9.6
Battery current (a): 9.5
System Efficiency (%): 73.8
Motor Heat (W/oz): 11.9

Motor: HiMax 2015-5400
Motor weight (g): 48
RPM drop from hover (%): 8.3
Battery current (a): 9.5
System Efficiency (%): 73.6
Motor Heat (W/oz): 12.0

Motor: Hacker B20-22s
Motor weight (g): 40
RPM drop from hover (%): 7.2
Battery current (a): 8.7
System Efficiency (%): 79.1
Motor Heat (W/oz): 9.5

Motor: Astro Flight 010 Heli
Motor weight (g): 32
RPM drop from hover (%): 9.4
Battery current (a): 8.6
System Efficiency (%): 77.6
Motor Heat (W/oz): 13.2

Motor: Razor RZ2500
Motor weight (g): 39
RPM drop from hover (%): 4.4
Battery current (a): 8.6
System Efficiency (%): 79.3
Motor Heat (W/oz): 9.6

Motor: Model Motors Mini AC 1215/12
Motor weight (g): 49
RPM drop from hover (%): 5.5
Battery current (a): 8.9
System Efficiency (%): 79.2
Motor Heat (W/oz): 7.9

Motor: Model Motors Mini AC 1215/16
Motor weight (g): 48
RPM drop from hover (%): 6.1
Battery current (a): 8.6
System Efficiency (%): 81.2
Motor Heat (W/oz): 6.7

Looks loke the Model Motors Mini AC 1215/16 is the winner.

Any other requests?

Wow, but $100 for it? I'll take the himax for $50 any day.

I am running the Himax 2015-4100 in my CP on two TP 1320s and have been extremely pleased with this set up. (Although I’m not doing any 3D) When I first started flying the Heli I noticed that the front side of the motor was getting hot so I added a heat sink. The back side of the motor was just starting to get warm but the front was still hot.
I then trimmed the top of the canopy to allow more air across the motor and now I can hover for 14 minutes straight and at the end of the flight the motor is barley warm to the touch.
