Longer flights for one. The engine is supposed to run more consistant.

Also traps the air bubbles, from getting to your engine....especially when you start flying more aggresively.

For those helis that have an obscured main tank, the header let you know you're about to be out of gas.

Longer flights really isn't the reason. You will get a little more time, but that is an ancillary reason.

Header tanks keep a constant supply of fuel to the motor when doing 3D. You can be inverted, sideways, etc and the pressure from the main tank will keep the header full....thus always feeding fuel to the motor.

Best Regards, Dario

if you are to lazy to check the clunk line in the main tank... gives you a little extra saftey right there...

.
They came up in the mid-90's, mostly to keep the engine runs consistent as fuel is used. The other stuff (longer flights, trapping air bubbles, see fuel quantity) are added benefits.

.

Flying helis since gyros had springs.
