why is my stock tail fried after hardly any flights? i know they burn out, but this was definitely sooner than later. and it was HOT too.

based on some i've read on here I was thinking the 3s voltage might have been too much for the little motor? The gws direct drive motor is nominally 7.2 volts too. will that one get fried as easily on 3s? did i make a mistake about waiting to program my pixie7p?

http://www.allerc.com was out of gws DD motors, so i ordered http://www.stevensaero.com/microheli.html this one. I'm not sure if it's the same gws plus a mount or not?

My heli right now:
3s lipo's - etech 1200's
stock main motor
stock tail setup
pixie 20 main esc
pixie 7p tail esc
cirrus 6ch single conversion Rx

i've only seen one high-voltage dd motor, and that's the ducted fan.... are there any others? what to do?

any advice would help!

The longevity of the stock tail motor depends on the ESC. If you have a high frequency ESC (75 – 100Khz) like the Schulze 105He or new TREC the motor will last several hundred flights. I have about 70 flights on mine with a ET1200 3s LiPo and Schulze ESC.

Since you have a low frequency ESC (pixie 7) your motor could fail at any time.

The stock motor is excellent you just have to use the correct ESC!

I'd be more concerned about that stock Main motor! Those 370 don't last long at all, especially with 11.1 pumping thru it! In case you didn't know, when that Main goes out, it will probally be in mid-flight, so she'll just drop like a rock when she goes!

I fly my CP HB with 3s poly packs and the DD Tail. I have probably 20 - 25 flights so far and the tail is still rockin. Could be you got a bad one? Yeah, life will be limited (just as with a brushed main), but it's more than worth it for the extra performance.

When my main went it just slowly lost power, no sudden cutout. Eventually it wouldn't get out of ground effect.

Those replacement motors have a lower voltage than the stock motor. With 3s LiPo I have heard that they burn out much faster than stock – but they are very inexpensive.

Boy, I wish my 3 Brushed Main motors had slowly went out, instead of just burning out in mid-flight! My friends did it too! Not fun when you're about 10 feet up and it lets loose!

JoeyDiaz, like I’ve been trying to tell everyone it’s not about the motor it’s about he ESC. I’m serious when I say that a stock motor will last 200+ flights with a high frequency ESC!

Wow thanks everyone! This is the best response I've gotten to one of my posts by far!

So is anybody having any luck with the pixie7p on 3s? I thought more people were using that one.... If that's a wasted $33 I don't know what to do with it now....

Joey, how many cells are you running? I really like the price of those motors.... I'll check them out thanks.

Pbmax, you're using the 7p right?

Again, thanks everybody

PS, regarding the main motor, it keeps glitching every few seconds where the throttle cuts for a moment... enough to make the heli drop a few inches to a foot or so. Must be the cheap Cirrus 6ch Rx I bought or ...?
