I had a flybar paddle come off during flight and busted one of the landing gear legs.
Does anybody make a Wire landing gear setup for this new CP bird yet?

Get some piano wire from local hardware store and make your own.
Cost is probably 5 bucks and you'll have 4-5 sets of landing gear material left when you are done haha.

I am not sure about Elite series, if they are anything like the V2 in terms of landing skids. Then I recommend you to do my mod. Since any metal wire will be heavier than CF rod.

I modified my landing gear a bit and they have never snaped again. I do crash when practicing nose-in. Actually I let it crash when I lose orientation so it would fall to the soft grass intead of hitting a wall or something. I probably crashed 20 times yesterday and my skids are just fine.

Here's the mod.

Basically you need to snap the landing gear at the plastic/cf joint. (my snaped when I crash, I think you should let it snap "naturally" too. Since your already snaped you can do this)

remove any plastic material left on the CF rod.

drill through the plastic landing skids.

Fit the rod throught the hole you just drilled.

Use goop to stick everything together. I used some tubing and CA because I didn't know about goop. Now that I have goop I think it will serve the purpose better. Trim excess goop off when everything dries.

Tape the bottom of the skids after just to make it stronger.

Now you can lift your helicopter 1m off the ground and just drop it and you won't break any landing gear ever.

Yeah, the piano wire is very tough, if you don't mind the bit of weight they will add. If you have lipos, weight shouldnt be a problem.

Anybody know what Mario uses for the "tuff" landing gear he sells?

On a micro.

EVERY BIT OF WEIGHT IS CRITICAL!

so Stop adding weight.

The HB is only about 265g RTF with lipo.
Every bit of weight shed off will make your HB fly longer with more power.

With stock motor, you only have about 100g of thrust(minus 265g). So if you add 10g, you'd end up with 90g of thrust. BIG DIFFERENCE!

What I am getting at is that I personally would mind any extra weight and would opt out any G10 frame or metal wire as I see them as a downgrade rather than an upgrade. The stock frame is very strong except the landing skids. After I did a little modification I can safely drop the whole thing 1meter above ground and nothing would break, I don't see the point of a G10 frame.

With brushless motors, Lipos, and good blades, 10g is worth it for us that are not so proficient and continuously break the gear. It saves money and time. Also the ease of mounting the battery is well worth it.

Besides, this hobby has always been about mods and tricks, and spending MONEY!!!!! You are missing the boat!!! LOLOLOL!

With BL motor you may have more freedom on the weight issue.

But I used 10g as an estimate, the G10 chasis and skids looks much heavier than the stock one (especially compared to new alum. chasis on the Elite serie. G10 chasis really becomes an downgrade compare to Elite).

Anyways, I am just saying that, if you want you HB to look stunning, then do what scalers are doing.

If you put BL motor and all that, it means that you are a performance kinda guy, then what's the point of a G10 chasis and skids? stock ones with free mod are just fine and CF rods are cheap so IF you break something you can replace it easily. Not so with the G10 stuff.

I believe that when I installed the G10 that the weight only changed less than 10 grams, you also have to consider that if you go seperates you are usually adding weight due to extra components, also some run the GY240, and we all know that it is heavier than the little century one, also if you are running a 3S 1300 Lipo that weighs more than 2S Lipos

If you want extreme electric performance get an MA ION-X

The HB is only about 265g RTF with lipo.
Maybe with the stock components but as mentioned with separates mine weighs that much w/o the flight pack installed.

I think if I could get the video of mine that Zoom shot this past weekend you would agree that my 349 AUW with TP 1320mah pack is MORE than adequate in the performance department. I can fly 3D for 11mins.....

I'm not disputing the importance of weight at all but some mods/changes are required if your going to run Li-Pos and a HV setup. There are no good places to put a 3s pack so I made my landing gear out of coat hanger and bent it such that it would give me room to secure the pack up front between the struts.

As for the Mario G-10 frame upgrade I agree. It's sure looks sweet but I would much rather save the $$$ for more parts or more Li-Pos. Expecially when you can make your own gear for free!

BTW, I added a net 3grams with my landing gear solution:

I have replaced my graphite landing gears rods with piano wire also, as it was cheap and easy, and they wont break anymore, but thats with the elite series, I remember on Piccolo, it was a must to use MIA gear.

I also think it looks trick, definitely gives me a secure battery mount, which is necessary for 3D, and will probably never break. It also isnt that expensive, less than a set of CF blades, which Idont even think about when I spend the $$$ and are consumables.

As far as weight, I like to save wherever I can, but in the name of strength, and securing the battery, looks, and coolness factor, i will just add more power!!!!

You know what they say, with enough thrust, a brick will fly!!!
