Hello All,
If you are not aware...The Pilot Locator has been updated to a different database and I believe handed to a new owner.
This a FREE site that does not sell or endorse anything but us Pilots.
It costs nothing to register but is an invaluable tool in furthering this hobby. I got the help I needed from a local pilot that I found of the Pilot Locator and if werent for this tool...I would not be in the hobby where I am today.
Newbies to Experts...please fill this out if you do not mind listing yourself as open to help others enjoy this great Hobby. Please register on the Pilot Locator at:
http://www.pilotlocator.net/index.php

If the area you live in is not Mapped but would like to possibly have it added....Please email the administrator to see what he can do about your area.
Thank You

what happened to the old one?

I went on the site and re-registered myself. However, most of the people from my state have not. What happened to all the info that used to be there? Is it gone for good? Does some one still have it? Can they put the info from the previous site onto this one?

Well that sucks. I had to reregister too. It's shame that they couldn't transfer the database to the new site. Everybody has to reregister now and I would doubt they will do.

well, it has good points, one good point is the old list is still up in archive mode so go see it and all the old listings are there. Another good point is that the new list is fresh and you know the people listed are current.

Guys,
From what I understand...The old database couldnt be transferred to the new...some sort of conflict or something. The old database IS in the archive so the info is still there.
Like as was said...Good to have the fresh list.
I know when I used it over a year ago... a couple of the people I contacted were no longer into helis.
Just tell everyone you know to go on and reregister to update the info.
Thanks

I'm just speculating here but I'm pretty sure the origional list was manually created and there really isn't any database involved. Nothing to transfer just some random text on in an HTML table that was typed in by the list maintainer.

Whoever created the new list is taking advantage of the newer database technology (well, not really new, just new for this list) and giving us an upgrade to a list we can maintain ourselves.

It should be applauded. I maintain a dinky little site and I know what a pain it is sometimes to find the time to sit and update the pages. it can take up a lot of a persons time.

This new list is a good thing for all of us.

If they have problems transferring the data why don't they just send an e-mail to all registered pilots explaining they need to regesiter on the new site??

It's a one man show

It is a lot easier this way for C.J. to get it going again. Remember there is no money being made on this thing!

If they want to send an email to all registered pilots of the old list, they would have to go to each page for each location and cut and paste the email addresses for all the pilots one at a time. BIG pain in the a$$

The new list has some far better features and is maintainable by the users. Be happy that someone is taking the time to keep us up to date.

This is like going from a typewriter to a computer.

Which ever is easier would make sense especially if it's free time, thanks for the helpful explanation eSmith. It was merely a suggestion to expedite the data transfer in the case the data WAS needed. It can be done! Otherwise let the new site take hold. The important pilots will be well aware and reregister anyway. I'm sure there are several outdated registered pilots on the old site. Not a bad way to clean it up.

I AM HAPPY someone is taking the time to provide an update. Where did I say differently???. If you want to be helpful, try providing information other than submitting worthless words to gain status
