I have a few questions for you video gurus out there. I want to post some video online of my flying.

2 questions.

First, what program do you use to import from your video camera. Currently I use windows movie maker.

Second, what do you use to compress the video to a fairly good quality, but manageable filesize.

Thanks

You may want to take a look at doom9, everwicked or afterdawn under their sections "guides". They may be a bit DVD-to-XviD-oriented, but there are some guides for grabbing video from DV-cameras too.

I would recommend the XviD codec. It is one of the most advanced codecs and of all the unbiased codec-reviews out there, this is the one that comes on top. And it's free.

When I captured from my video camera last night. This is the process that I used.

Connected computer to my camera using firewire (i-link)

Then captured using windows movie maker.

When I played back the captured video, it was pixelated on my screen a little. Not nearly the quality that it played on my tv. So that must be due to the fact that the windows media capture is not very good quality. I guess I will try one of the other programs such as avi_io, Vdub, or Flycap.

I am using Pinnacle Studio 8.

It allows you to import video direct from your camera or an other external source.

Once edited you can choose the level of compression from DVD quality down to streaming quality (WMV or RAM)

My first attempt is in my gallery - I compressed it a lot because I had to upload it on a 56K dial up.

MY GALLERY

The original in MPG format was about 60MB !!

I have also used the Ulead media studio 7 which has all of the same features but has a more fussy interface.

Andy.

Augusto has a great step-by step tutorial on how to compress videos. I've used the procedure on his website and it works great.
