Check out http://www.webroot.com. Might be able to find what you are looking for there.

I have the webroot spysweeper. It's a pretty good program.. So I guess I should just buy all of my porn from the bookstore... I am pretty computer literate, but I don't know how to format the drive and reinstall xp. Will this take all of my other programs off also, you know like photoshop, etc... etc..? Is it a difficult and lengthy process?

You format the drive -- everything out on the drive is GONE.

Formatting is exceptionally simple... you boot into the "command mode" -- looks like the DOS of pre-windows days, and you type "FORMAT C:" and press the enter key. Answer the warning question "Yes", and sit back and watch as all the data and programs on your disk disappear forever.

XP and all of your applications (Word, Netscape, the cool CD_ROM and DVD burners, photoshop, and all the other stuff that makes your PC actually useful) -- have to be reloaded from scratch.

As for your actual data files - pics, documents, email, music, movies -- all the stuff you do with your PC...also have to be reloaded. Presumably these would come from some backup source you've been maintaining all along. Otherwise, all that data is toast. Gone forever.

A good virus scanner, kept updated, a good spyware detector, as well as a good firewall are essential these days if you are net-connected.

By the way -- if you have someone close by who is computer savvy, they might be able to edit the Windows Registry using RegEdit (a program found on your XP machine). If they open the path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -->Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Current Version --> Run (and/or RunOnce)

you'll see all sorts of stuff that the computer loads and runs at power-up.

If the bogus software on your system fires up everytime you start your PC, most likely the key to loading and starting it is located in the registry path above. If you can find the entry and delete it, then you will be able to start your PC without the bogus program booting up along with it. This may make it easier for anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to find it and kill it for good.

I agree with dkshema

A good virus scanner, kept updated, a good spyware detector also
up to date.

I us 2 different spyware detectors. One seems to fined stuff the other one missed and I also us Historykill to keep my web search private.
It is also a good idea to Partishon your hard drive. You can save your
data ( PIC, Word Doc, email ) on the second Partishon where it will be safe in case you have
to format the first Partishon ware XP is installed. This way only the first
Partishon is lost and not the second ware your data is.

i recommend 'hijackthis' it will scan your system for all the startup methods and let you check what you want to get rid of, its not retard proof meaning you could delete something important but very very very unlikly in most cases just delete everything it finds...

hijackthis can be found by doing a simple google search and its freeware.... works good.
