1. It's between a Futaba 401 and 601 in tail holding performance, at the price of the 401.
2. I find that the transmitter's gyro sensitivity setting for the JR500 is more critical- if you exceed the desireable sensitivity, the tail wag is violent.
3. It doesn't have the nice idiot light that the 401 has, to tell you its status.
4. You can use a JR servo with it, which you don't want to do with the 401. Many say that the 9253 /9254 servo on the 401 is not very tough.
5. Curtis Youngblood uses it.

The 8700 servo warrants the "high" frame rate setting, although I'm not sure anyone has ever noticed the difference.

I just ordered the new JR G500t gyro and its companion servo the 8700G High Speed Super S (for PCM).
This promises to be the stuff as far as gyro/servo combos go.
This is the part that really impressed me about the gyro.

"Unequalled Shock & Vibration Resistance
Balanced oscillators, such as a piezo crystal, have solid mounts that expose them to any external vibration the gyro case is subjected to. This is why a piezo-equipped heli will experience tail-twitch at higher gain settings if there's enough vibration. The solid mount sensor can't distinguish between the secondary vibration caused by rotation (coriolis effect) and external vibration.

The G500's silicon ring sensor, however, is integrated with the circuitry in such a way that it's isolated from any external vibration from things like not balancing your cooling fan. smile.gif This allows pilots to really crank the gain for maximum holding power, regardless of the vibration levels. It also makes the sensor practically shock proof. Silicon ring sensors, just like the one JR uses, have been subjected to momentary loads of as much as 10,000 g's and continued to function without a glitch. Needless to say if your heli undergoes that kind of a g-load, whether the gyro works or not will probably be the least of your worries."

the servo boasts a speed of .09 second transit @ 4.8 volts 49.3 oz/in of torque with wider spaced bearings offering superior waer characteristics and precision Jr claims that this combo will last longer hold better and be much more precise than previous equipment. OH! and it can also come gift wrapped.

for more info on silicon sensing see http://www.siliconsensing.com/

the 810g is slower and has less torque than the 8700g

JR G500T Tail Lock Gyro

Has anyone tried a DS 8417 Servo with this gyro ? if so how did it work ...also I know that the 810 is slower than the 8700 servo but does this servo work good with the gyro? thanks in advance

Yes, I have a 500T and a 8417 in a carbon Predator Max. SO far, it works well. I will do some more advanced flying with it in the next week or so........

This may be of some use.

Here is the scoop from Scott Cathey on how to set up the gyro.

Set the mechanical tail rotor throw in the middle of the travel. Don't worry about how the tail rotor looks pitchwise just set the mechanical travel.

Use a servo arm that is 16-18mm from the center to the ball.

Set the gyro ATV so the servo will not bind at the endpoints.

Set the TX T/R ATV's to 100%.

On the bench use subtrim at the TX so the servo won't drift in HH mode. Whatever it takes to make the servo sit still is what you will need

Scott says to use 68-75% gain and when you fly it you can use Tail rotor trim if you need it to get the tail trimmed out. If the tail wags a little reduce the gain until it stops and then drop an additional 3%.

Scott further advises that he doesn't even bother to try the gyro in Rate mode, he just flies it in HH and fuhgeddaboutit.

Here it is straight from a JR team pilot on how it needs to be set up.

Thanks to Scott Cathey for the update.

When in doubt.....

shorten the output arm length. Also, check mounting tape.

ok----all of the above sounds like enough info to act on----i had yanked the 5000t out of the heli and put a 401 in its place-----i think this weekend i will try the jr 5000t again incorporating the advice you all gave me here!!!!
...good luck too me....and thanks for the replies!!!
