I've been running a 2400 Sub-c nicd pack on my rappy since October 03. I pulled the pack out of the heli last night and was going to deep cycle it when I noticed that under the clear heat shrink there was a lot of what looked like rust and green crud all over the terminals and Deans bars. Both ends of the cells had this corrosion.

My question is: do you think this caused by cell leakage or trapped moisture under the heat shrink? Has anyone else out there seen this?

It's not humid at all out here so I don't think that could be a factor. The pack still seems to be going strong, just needs a cycling.

Any Nicd cell chemistry experts out there?

Thanks Ruff! That site helped.

I don't think my pack is suffering from "blackwire syndrome", but is suffering from soldering directly to the cell syndrome!

I got in the habit from R/C cars and I think that I might have damaged the seals on the battery. Still works though! Weird!

I don't know if I'd chance it....especially if it's in your Xspec!

Buy another battery. They're cheap.

I got a new one (2400 sub C) for about $28 while I waited.

I don't know if you can make it here before they close but check it out:

TNR Technical

If not maybe I can pick it up for you. Let me know.
