Yep! If you still have the Stock Canopy, then you can paint it up all kinds of ways! I've painted about 5 of them. It was a little slow this morning at my 4x4 shop, so I got out the stock Canopy and started taping it up for some spray.

I thought I might do a little Coast Guard theme with it. I know its not a whole scale body, but its light, its fun and its cheap if you still have the decaled stock Canopy! Just peel off the decals, tape up a design, rough up the part you're gonna paint with a scuff-pad, then shoot!

Heres mine from earlier today!

Hey Airmicro,

Your heli looks great... same goes for those in your gallery!

But I have to ask you.... how do you like that DD ducted fan tail motor? Does it do a good job or does it do a great job? Looks like you have a couple of helis retrofitted with that type of motor? Are you running separates too... looked like you were in your gallery? What kind of esc for the tail are you running?

Can you give any advice on that motor? Would love to get all of your inisght.... I really like like that motor and I really like the idea that it seems like if I were to convert to a DD ducted fan tail motor I probably will save myself some $ from broken blades.

How do you mount it on the boom? Heli-Hobby doesn't really say how to get it on.

Thanks!

What kind of paint are you using? Does it go on easy and does it stay on?

Take Care,

Thanks guys! Yeah, just a little paint on the stock Canopy can make it look like its another type of Canopy all together! Like I said, nothing special, just different. I love to fly my Heli's, but I also like to tinker with them too, and especially changing the look every now and then! If you look close, you can see my Heli has been lowered too!

Wannafly, yes I'm running seperates. I use a Razor V2, Phoenix 10, 5 amp tail esc. and the edf40h tail set-up. I like my edf tail. It has good authority, plus it looks cool and always gets questions from those not familiar with them! I love seperates, but I had my stock stuff dialed in pretty good too, but couldn't take the 20 flights, then the 370 motor going bad in mid air and falling to the ground! Seperates are a little bit of a headache setting up at first if you aren't very familiar with them, but then after you understand them, its cake!

Heres another pic of two more stock Canopies I did!

I wanted to know what type or brand of paint you are using? How does it hold up to handling and touching? Does it flake off, peel, feel sticky, etc?

Take Care,

Hey Saint, I did forget to answer you the first time, didn't I, sorry! Most of the time I use the Krylon Fusion paints! It comes in a big spray can, but they don't have a ton of colors, but what they do have is good for this type of painting. It actually bonds into plastic, so no chipping, or rubbing off!

On the White and Orange one I just did, it was with Krylon Short-Cuts paint. It comes in little short cans like the size of R/C can paint. It is a hobby and craft paint usually found at Craft stores or K-Mart etc. They have quite a few colors, and they do great!

Sorry I forgot to reply back earlier! Hope this helps, and by the way, if someone would want one painted, but doesn't want to mess with it theirself, drop me a line and I can paint one up for ya!

When running seperates what do people use for the tail ESC? On my HB v.2 I would like to continue using my dual motor mount. Is there a recommended brushless motor for this? Should I continue using the standard mortors and a brushed ESC? Can you use the regular century ESC just for the tail?

I am tired of killing my main motor and watching my heli twitch to it's death on the pavement.

Some people use the Hummingboard for the tail esc. but i don't see the reason. It has all the other weight and functions you don't need! I use a E-Flight 5amp esc. for my edf40h tail, and it works fine.

Yes, a big problem for the HB is the crappy stock 370 motor! It had enough power for me, especially while getting the Hovering down and some flying around, but they just don't last long at all! I had two go bad in the middle of flights, and drop my nice heli to the floor and bust it in pieces! The 2nd time was it for me!

I was very satisfied with the 370 except the 20-25 flights before crapping out! I really didn't want to go BL because of all the changes and fuss it took to connect up, but really its not that bad, especially if you can solder decent, and we all can if we practice!

Thanks Airmicro

I am pretty sure that I am going to go all new electronics with the trec tail esc and Pheonix 10 for a brushless setup.

Anyone know what brushless motor centrury heli is selling on their site as an upgrade? Is it any good?
