i recently put a new glow plug becasue my glow plug wasnt charging. it worked and started up the engine but when i was done with that tank and tried to start up my heli the 2nd time there wasnt a charge. How could my glow plug been burnt out from one flight. I take out my enigine to look and i noticed that the piston is purely dark brown and somewaht black. I am guessing that this is not good. What am i doing wrong? I turn my needle 3 turns from close just like the manual says.

What am i doing wrong?
and
How much will this cost to replace?

The manual settings are just a starting point 9 times out of 10 they will be different. Sounds to me like you are running a bit lean. What does the coil on the glow plug look like when you take it out ? is it gone or white looking or touching the side of the hole? if it is white it is a lean run and you are burning it. if it is touching the side then more than likely it was to rich when it burnt
Hope this helps

By the looks it must be too lean. Must get hot too.

.
What kind of fuel? Is the exhaust clear, or does it leave a darkish stain? If the exhaust is dark, wipe some on a white tissue or your finger, hold it so the daylight reflects off of it and see if there's any shiny specks. If so, the engine is making metal somewhere and needs to be looked at closely.

If the exhaust is clear, you may just have some castor stains on the piston or may have had a lean run. Make sure the low-end needle is rich enough too.

Flying helis since gyros had springs.

The only thing i can think of is if you let the fuel run out while hovering .Have you done that at all?
