Hey everyone, just thought I would throw this out there. Because of the type of RX I am using on my Zoom, I do not have many options to mount a GY401 or GY240 gyro to the Zoom.

I have seen a few people that had it mounted on a special plate on the tailboom just behind the main shaft.

Well here is a very cheap and effective way to make a gyro mount for the GY240, or GY401.

Goto the hardware store and get yourself a cabletie mounting base.

Flip it over, mount it onto the boom then mount your gyro. Done.

You may have to round out the two edges slightly to make it fit the shape of the boom better, but it works perfect. And it has the slots for sip tieing it to the boom. For extra support, put a small piece of double stick tape on the boom first.

Here is a picture of what I used. You can see the contour already there, just round it out a bit more to fit the boom and you are done. The back side is perfectly flat, however I would suggest using your own sticky tape other than what is supplied on the unit.

Total cost??? Maybe 25 cents if that.

Anything really. I have seen people use them to stick inside a computer case to help manage the wires, or stick them to a wall to route phone cords without having to drill into the wall......

Anyplace has them. I got mine at home depot.

I actually used the same thing a few years ago on a sceadu to mount the co-pilot on the boom. Worked great.

Here are a few pics of my GY401 boom mounted using what I described above. The plate is exactly the size of the gyro base and it is solid and lite.

Now all you need to do is mount the T/R servo to the boom on another one of those mounts. You will get much better response than the "junk" stock pushrod.

Off to Home Depot for a cable tie holder

I got a few of these at "The Depot" and tried a pair as suggested above. It worked pretty good but I had to buld up a little more surface area using CA and baking soda to get the mount to stay stable. I have both the servo and CSM200 gyro mounted using these.

Bubblehead, Thats why I put a small piece of double sticky foam tape on the boom first, then tighten it down using the Zip-ties. No movement at all. And much easier than building anything.

cnsheets - good tip on the double sided tape. I missed that on your idea earlier but will incorporate it when I get home Thursday. I will also use 2-zip ties on each mount. That should stabilize it a bit too.

I got the CF plates from HH and it holds great. I would have gone with something like this, but I needed a servo mount(Would an Hs 55 make a good tail servo?).

The HS50 seems to be faster .09 sec, but only like 8.4 oz of torqe so if your using a small carbon rod directly to the lever, there should be hardly any load for it.

This is a great method! I've used it for not only my gy240, but also for the tail servo. I added a dab of glue to the servo mount and it's rock solid. Unmovable
