I have an interesting problem that I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas. This past weekend I had a tailboom strike and have to replace the whole works. After I cut the boom and driveshaft about 6 inches from the gearbox, I removed the setscrews from the drive shaft.

I can't get the driveshaft off the input shaft to the gearbox. I have tried using penetrating oil, and considerable force but I guess I used to much locktite and the driveshaft is stuck on. I also tried to apply some heat, as much as I thought would be ok, and no luck. I guess my last option is to cut the end of the driveshaft lengthwise and try to pry it off.

Any ideas?

More heat.

Every time I pull mine apart, I get concerned about the heat also. I use a propane blow torch, and it comes apart easily when enough heat is applied.

You might want to try to protect the plastic gear box some how though. Maybe you could wrap a frozen wash cloth around the gear box, or something like that to help keep it cool.

Thanks for the reply;

I'll give it a try tonight. I already have a new gearbox on the way, so I have some room to play. If I can get this one working again, It will be nice to have a backup.
