Heli Heat Wave VI is gearing up. As usual, it will be held at Thunderbird Field at Benbrook Lake on the west side of Fort Worth. There are lots of great accomodations right nearby and restaurants to suit every taste. Plus, you can go downtown Fort Worth to any number of clubs and shows for the late evening.

Everyone is invited 16, 17, 18 July for the Heli Heat Wave.
We'll have plenty of food and drink at the field and your $30 entry includes pilot drawings and custom t-shirt.

We'll have a spot autorotation contest and novelty events that anyone can enter; plus, there will be our usual assortment of goodies to give away.

Maps and hotel/motel addresses are on our web site, but send me an email directly if you need some other assistance. http://www.fwthunderbirds.org

This is an AMA sanctioned event and you must bring your AMA card or sign up at registration.

Heli Heat Wave

It's going to happen but I think at another field, Benbrook Lake had to much rain, Chris will let everybody know, I don't mean to step on any body's Funfly. Chris is running it and I'm quite sure he will let everybody know, he's a great contest director and has always put on a good show. Bobby

HELI HEAT WAVE VI is a GO!
The HHW VI will not be held at Thunderbird Field. The flying site will be just a few miles further south on Hwy 377 at the flying site of the Planesmen. Click Here for more details of Heli Heat Wave VI.

Does anyone have a map, hotel info, etc for the new location? I went to T-Bird's website, but the detailed info link isn't working.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Howdy All:
Apologies all around for the last minute decision on everything. The problem was that we all kept expecting the Corps of Engineers to open up the park so that we could be flying at our regular place. We finally got word on Wednesday that they would be keeping the park closed while contractors cleared out the debris (even though this doesn't affect our flying site).

So, yes, we will be running the fun fly though without some of the fanfare of past events. We will hold it at the Planesmen's rather nice all grass flying site. I'll have a map on the Thunderbirds web site tonight (Friday).

It's only a two miles further south on Hwy 377 (past Tiger Trail, past the first traffic light in Wheatland). Turn left on Pyramid Acres. Pyramid Acres is right beside a huge building that has "Flea Market" and "Antiques" in enormous letters on the exterior).

Once on Pyramid Acres, drive about 1/2 mile until you cross over a cattle guard. At that point look to the left and you'll see the flying site and storage hangar.

It really is easy to get to get to and only a little more inconvenient than going to the Thunderbird Field.

The fun fly is an AMA event, please bring your AMA licenses. We'll make this a more laid back event but will have extra comaradarie to make up for it. Hope to see you all there. Any questions, please call me at 817-297-1028.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hey are you guys bringing Len Mount over again this year? It was very cool seeing his turbine stuff fly the last couple of years, especially with that big radar thing on the head! I would love to see what he has to fly now, rumors of a giant Apache?

Any big names going to be there? What are some of the Key draw things to be seen?

I plan on doing Six Flags on Friday with the family and then Saturday we will be at the field.

Ken:
For the last 5 years the Heli Heat Wave has had organized scale contests, full size heli fly-ins from the US Army, Careflight, and several private individuals. We've also run day long novelty events, spot auto contests, and drag races with hundreds of dollars spent in plaques and gifts.

This year, because the event was basically cancelled and brought back at the last minute, we aren't able to organize these things. We will have a spot auto contest for sure and perhaps some racing.

At this time of the year, it is hard to bring the big names to the event because of the nationals, XFC, and 3D masters. We will have Anthony Jager and Justin Moore, XFC competitors there, plus some of us ain't too shabby either!

I will run a setup clinic if people are interested and will talk about mechanical, radio, engine installations, plus advanced mixes and flight maneuvers. I've done this on several occasions in the past and people seemed to enjoy it.

This year the event will be lower key, but I think it will still be worth coming to.

Cheers,
Chris.

Ron Lund just got in touch with me. A bunch of people got sick at work and he's got to stay to mind the farm. He did provide me with some gifts though, thanks Ron.

I've had a dozen emails from people in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma who said they were coming. I think the turn-out will be lower than previous years because of the location change and economy. Plus, I've seen a lot of heli pilots drop out of the heli aspect of the hobby to persue other interests.

I'm anticipating 40 to 50 pilots this year.

Cheers,
Chris.
