the purple bull motor just did not work out for me. what kind of hotter motor/pinion setup can i use without going brushless? i just want to learn to fly before i get more power with the phasor. i want to keep the brushed setup under 35 amps and i am using an 8 cell 2400 scr.
thanks

I'm using the Purple Bull with a 14T pinion, battery packs vary; I use 8 cell 1900 mAH Nicad, 8 cell 3000 NiMHd, and a 10 cell 2400 Nicad. I just burnt up my first Purple Bull after about 30 flights, but was pushing it hard without wind-down or cooling period after flight. i use the throttle trim on my Hitec 7 to adjust rotor speed between the different batteries. With this arrangement, the Eco is pretty spry, though I'm not good enough for 3D and haven't tried anything along those lines. I'm also thinking of trying the Magnetic Mayhem Reverse until I can afford brushless... but from what I hear, none of the brushed motors last real long.

I'm no expert, but wouldn't using the phasor with a smaller pinion give you all of the advantages of a brushless setup without significantly changing the performance? (If like me, you're not ready for 3D).

Then when its upgrade time, just get a larger pinion.

(Me? I'm still flying the stock Ikarus motor on 8 cells, but plan to add a phasor soon.)

i put a 12 tooth on my purple bull and the flight times were about a second, then it didnt have enough power to fly. i think i burned it out. so i got a 19 turn 1 wind motor with a 14 tooth, it flew gret for the first few minutes then the enbell melted off. so im stuck. i guess ill get the phasor.

The magenetic Mayhem reverse and a 13 T pinion on 8 cells will serve you fine fpr a brushed setup. If running 10 cells, drop the pinion down to 11 T, otherwise the motor won't last too long.

You won't be sorry going brushless right away. Get the Phasor or equivalent.

Happy flying,

Brian
