I have a couple of questions regarding Mavrikk mufflers for my OS70.

1. I do have a Mavrikk muffler on my OS70, but I am unsure wether it is the MVPV0205 or the MVPV0209. How can I identify which one it is?

2. Which one of these is the best one to use? It doesn't look like Heliproz have their act together when it comes to recommending one of them. Here a couple of qoutes from their site:

MVPV0205 Muffler, OS/TT 60/70
http://www6.mailordercentral.com/he...tem=26&mitem=96
"Slightly similar to Ace PV0205 except except it is sized and tuned properly for the OS .70"

MVPV0209 Mavrikk OS .91 Mufflr
http://www.heliproz.com/os70szh.html
"And it runs GREAT with the Mavrikk 0209 muffler"

I am not especially happy with the one I have. I am having a hard time getting my Heli to accept a headspeed any higher than 1700. I can get it up to 1750, but only if I lean it to the point where it is getting too hot and definately is running too lean.

Can't seem to find it here (Denmark) How about using a HATORI 970 TUNE3D PIPE 90-3D? Would that combo work?

SB-70

I was using a maverikk muffer and I had the same problem. I used the SB-70 for the first time today and i was very happy with it.
It was like flying a whole different heli.
I was using an OS 61 with the mavrikk muffler and was flew ok. I wanted more power so i got an OS 70. I used the same muffler and there was a slight increase in power but not much. I was disappointed that the bigger engine didn't give a bigger gain in power.
Then i got a Hatori SB-70 and now my OS 70 has big power. I even had to give my Raptor 60 more top end pitch.
It's expensive, I think its worth it.
If I broke my SB-70, I wouldn't even put the maverikk muffler back on it. I would just buy another SB-70.

I can't seem to find the SB70 here in Denmark, so I have ordered a MPII. I guess if I don't get the needed power I can always use the MPII for a OS91 of a YS.

MP-2

You will be happy with your MP-2 on your 70. I ran the combo for just over a year and had most people in my area using the MP-2 on their 70's......Alan

I run the Hatori SB 70 and am very happy with it. A buddy that I fly with uses the MP2 and it works well but is a little bit louder than the Hatori.

I've been running the mavrikk muffler on my OS70 for almost 2 years, and its been working great, sounds good, great power, good price to boot. Not sure which mine is but it came with the Raptor 70 combo Heliproz was selling, I think its the 0205 muffler. I would recommend it to anyone!!!

My experience with the Mavrikk on my OS70 is also good. Would another design make more power? Maybe, I haven't tried others.

But I sometimes wonder if the Mavrikk muffler was priced at $140 if it wouldn't become the "best and most recommended" on RR

Well, when I get the MPII I will write again and tell you what my experience was.
I am not presently satisfied with the power I am getting out of my OS70/Mavrikk combo. I would like my R70 to be as crazy (power to weight ratio) as my R50 (OS50) is. If the MPII won't do it I will upgrade to an OS91 or YS and be able to use the MPII in that setup.

If you look at Curtiss website you will see that they are coming out with a MP specifically for the OS70, the MP2 is designed for 80/90 engines, I would wait for the OS70 MP if I were you. I dont think they would be coming out with a MP for the OS70 if the MP2 worked well enough on it.

Hi Dazzler

I will most likely upgrade to a 90 size in the near future anyway, so by buying the original MPII I will at least save some money there. Just want to see if I can pull a little more out of the OS70 before doing so.
My OS70/Mavrikk combo is not too bad. It has the power required for most stuff, but it is not "screaming" if you know what I mean.

That makes sense

If your going to go with a 90 anyway, let me know how you like it on the 70 once you try it out!!!

I have two raptor 60's with OS70 in them. One has the Maverikk muffler and the other has the Hatori sb-70. There is a big difference in the two. Both engines are the same age, which is nearly new, and the one with the Hatori on it rocks.

Just an update. I saw significan't performance increase changing to the MPII. I have however encountered a new problem in the process. I have a hard time adjusting the engine so it will perform nicely during the majority of the flight without running lean at the end. I will therefore install a pressure nipple on the backplate and also put a Cline on the engine. That should solve my problem.
