Well I have allways done it, but thats might because Im a bit affraid that the glow plug is loose so i have allways to check it before I fly because it got loose some times on my R30. But then again, its much easier to forget the glow starter when its not pointing out from the ide of the heli..

I used this one on my hawk and it works great, just snip the end off yours and replace with this one.

Electo Dynamics makes a neat add on for a remote glow. Its a pigtail with a molded rubber boot. There is a spring inside, and gently pulling on the wire enables you to install or remove it. I posted some info on this unit several days ago, I really like it! So far, its held up great.

I have been using alligator spring clips from radio shack for about two years. Never had one come off yet. Cheap and easy to use.

One thing that I liked about the v-1 raptors was that you could cut a whole in the bottom of you canopy and attach the glow igniter directly. I don't think you can do that with every canopy.

I got one from Heliproz that is spring loaded and "clips" onto the plug. Never had it come off. Seems like they were 3 of 4 bucks a set. I have 5 sets (one on each of my helis), never had a problem.

Sorry about the low quality pic. My Sony doesn't do extreme close-ups very well.

Gidday

I use the tt one with the R clip and slip 10mm lengths of fuel line over the wire and cable tie to the front leg and slip anothe rbit over the adaptor to wire connection, this minimises the stress and carries some of the vibe away from ther connection, once a fortnight I give the plug connection a wee wriggle.

.10 Cent Aligator Clip

ALLNS47,

I had the same AGGRIVATING thing happening to me. I replaced the glow plug end with an aligator clip. It was the BEST upgrade I have made to my heli so far.

I would be worried about the car body clip grounding against the cylinder head.

The problem with the aligator clip is that it is a little weighty and it damages the plug over time. I ruined 3 plugs (Enya 3's) this way. The one with the rubber boot does not do that but as someone else mentioned here it doesn't last that long. Currently I have the boot on my R60 and nothing on my R30. On the 30 I have a hole and stick the ignitor thru there, on 2 occasions I flew the heli for about 3 minutes without realizing the ignitor was on it. Thank God nothing happened. This is something that somebody should develop better than the existing ones because taking off the canopy every time you start the engine is a pain. Incidentally, I have a couple of friends that do this but I just want to get in the air quick, I don't want hassle.

No prob's with aligator clips here.....

I use the aligator clip method. Have experienced zero problems with it. I use the miniature aligator clips that can be purchased at Radio Shack. Flew over 7 gallons thru an OS32 on the same plug, no sign of wear.

There, their and they're. It's really that simple.
