I aquired a car a bit ago that I'm having trouble getting a title for....seems the title is being held for a reason that is unknown to me and I'm having trouble getting info as I am technically not the "owner" is there any way I can get the title released through other means (never had this problem before usually they just make sure the car isnt stolen then issue a new title) my other Idea was to get a mega trashed car and rip the stickers and vin plate off and swap em out... (I also need some misc parts if ya got one...)
thx

Vin Tag violation is FEDERAL time.... You get busted, you get to meat Bubba in the big house.... an old ****box 95eclipse isnt worth that mess... So what your asking for and where you are asking this question is not a great idea.... Petition the state of Florida for the title and information about the vin you do have and they will work with you... It will take time and patience... but they will eventually come thru. (I have been in the car business with my parents for 20years) another option, Alabama has lax rules about getting another title for the car... You can file lost title there. But if it comes back stolen... once again, You're screwed! Sounds like what you have is a car, no title, or a title that has an unsatisfied lein against it. If thats the case, contact the lein holder and find out why it's not released. They must give you the option to square up the debt against the car, Or else you sick the state on them.

the car isnt stolen....I found that out...thats one thing they will tell you...but with the crackdown on the privacy act you are screwed for info! as far as swapping vin's didnt know that (used to do it alot in the past for pre 73 cars) I'll have to contact alabama motor vehicle see what they say....maybe its time to part it out and turn it into a carbique

My NEIGHBOR went to prison for TWO YEARS for VIN tampering!

He bought an old Ford Capri and wanted to fix it up. He registered it and got tags for it etc. Later he bought a wrecked 89 Ford Musting. The two are the same chassis. He used many of the parts off the Mustang. He used the rear bumper, the interior and the dash. In the process of moving the dash, he also moved the VIN.

One night while driving home from work, a trooper pulled up behind him and ran his plates. The car came back as a Capri, but the bumper said "Mustang". The trooper pulled him over and checked the VIN. It came back as a Capri. In the process of all of this he told the trooper that he pulled the dash and everything (VIN included) from an old Mustang. That was all the trooper needed to hear. They carted him off and locked the poor guy up for two years in the pen. Damn shame.

Leave the VIN alone.

heck I had a chevy titled as a ford for awile.....
as far as the capri storry...I find that a little off the cuff, not saying it couldnt happen but.....badges are interchangeable...thats a old hot rod trick to try too fool people...I had thunderbird badging in a 50 chevy....and V6 badges on a 454....if it was me your gonna need somethin more than a mustang sticker on a capri....so how do custom built cars get titles? IE boyd cars etc....some of these vehicles are scratch built...
