Need some insight. I know just about everyone will have a different temp rate for their condition, altitude/fuel etc. I was hoping to find out what temp will work best. I live 8 hrs from the closest city {Winnipeg). I was hoping to use Powermaster heli 15% because I have done some research and found it to be the best for my condition. The cost to ship from Quebec is more than the fuel that I wanted. I did however purchase 2 cases of Cool Power 15%. This fuel is not the Heli Cool Power 15%. I also bought a liter of castor oil.
I just put a new OS 70 H heli engine in this helicopter and would like it to stay in top working condition. The engine has been run-in with SIR XP 15% pro fuel. I ran 1 gallon through the engine and consider it to be a good start for the break-in. I would appreciate any response regarding what temperature this engine would work best at.
thanks,
trix

I am using the OS61WC, but I do use Cool Power 15%.. I add 2oz of SYNTHETIC oil to each gallon to help with cooling the engine.. I have tried castor oil before, but it does burn on the motor and muffler and tends to gum up plugs I think...

My engine temp is right around the 200 degree mark.. I have a temp reader, but I just prefer to do the 'spit' test.. That is, spit on the end of your finger and then tough the back of the engine head after a 'full' circut around the field.. If the engine makes it 'sizzle' you are running too hot/lean..

Good Luck.. and keep the temp BELOW 300 F!!!!

Castor oil will seriously varnish up an engine, especially at 300F. I don’t think you should ever use castor oil in a Helicopter engine. It just causes too many problems in the long run.

OS 70 Temp

I have heard many say that the OS 70 should not run much above 200. HOWEVER, mine doesn't produce good power until it's about 225 - 230. SO that is where I run it and it seems very happy!
By the way, the head always reads cooler then half way down the cylinder. I take my reading from the head.
