I just received my Shogun 400 and was planning to install a HiMaxx 2025-4200 as it seems as though that would be a good choice.

Since the shaft is a different size, I would need a new pinion. Anyone know where to get the proper pinion? What shaft size does the 2025-4200 have? Anyone running this motor? How many teeth are you using. Finally, do you know what pitch this gear is?

Thanks for all the questions. I want to get in the air with brushless, so I don't have to buy a brushed speed control just to try this thing out!

I have a Zoom 400 on backorder and it appears as if it may stay there indefinately. Where did you get the Shogun? They're backorderd, too.

Anyway, I already bought a Himaxx 2025-4200 that I plan to install if/when it finally arrives. You want an 8T (48 pitch) pinion for a 2mm shaft. I haven't had any luck finding one yet. Although Protech (makers of the Zoom) do stock them. Only problem is that they're in Belgium.

If anybody knows of a better source, please chime in.

Bimmerm3 - Thanks for the info. I'll keep looking for the pinion.

I got my Shogun at Coyote Hobby in Oregon City Oregon. He got 12 of them and still has a few remaining. They tell me they are one of the first stores in the US to get them from Global. I am not sure if they'd ship, but you can ask. Call 503-656-2172. They have a few of each replacement part as well. Apparently, after this first shipment, they are looking at the end of June before any more kits come in.

Thanks again!!

place to get pinions

Look at the gear selection under 1/24 slot cars at ncphobbies.com (you'll need 48 pitch gears)
http://www.ncphobbies.com/parmagears.html
order two of the 8, 9, or 10. Might want to find a heatsink too.

Great,

I didn't realize slot car gears had the same shaft size as the Himax motor! I used to race slot cars and have a whole box full of stuff, so I may even have a couple already.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I got my shogun a couple of days ago. Great looking heli but the tail rotor servo is pretty close to the main gear. It is so close it looks like it is actually rubbing although it does fly fine. I've also read in a magazine that it can fly with a 2-cell lipo but it doesn't look like mine is getting enough head speed. I tried it with a 3-cell lipo and everything worked great! Looking forward to flying that little puppy tomorrow!

mjp carbon makes a carbon mount to move the tail servo on to the boom so you wont have the problem of it rubbing the main gear

Does anyone know what pinion to use if I were to use a Razor rz-350 on my Shogun? I tried using a 10 tooth and seemed to work great for a couple of flights but I noticed some white dust or shavings from the smaller gear for the tail rotor. I flew it some more and then the gear wore out. I think I got the wrong pitch. Anyone know? Thanks.
