I am getting ready to pick up a raptor 50 to replace my Cal 30 (may it rest in pieces.) I have DS811's and a 401/9253 that I used in the Caliber, but was wondering if they would do OK in the 50, or what would be recommended.

Thanks!

They should do just fine.

The S9253 has been replaced by the S9254, which has much better performance, and about the same price. You might want to upgrade for your new helicopter.

i've also heard talk about the 9253's 2KG not being enough on tail..

heard of a few which have choked it..... too much strain i think

so yeah 9254 should be a good option

There should be no problem using the 9253 on the Raptor 50, I`ve been using it for a year now and NO PROBLEMS... and I`m (trying ) to fly it hard! (video in my gallery)

You`ll be just fine with the GY401/9253 combo you have there, I don`t now jack about those 811`s but there have been posts about this same subject on here. Try to do a search, I bet you could find loads of info!

Cheers,

Rich

I'd recommended TJ Pro with your 9253. You could spent some money to purchase a 9254 for your 401.

I have 811s in my Raptor 50 V2 and they work just great. I'm not a hardcore 3D flyer....yet, but so far so good. They've been able to handle loops, rolls, inverted hovering, my attempts at tic tocs (ugly!) and other stuff like it. I think they're a great servo. I love how smooth and quick they are.

2KG not being enough on tail..
well, this depends on your control rod setup
for me, 2k is plenty enough

collective servo is important; on a 50sized machine, your disc is bigger, so is the load on the servo. I use a 9202 caus I'm poor.

on cyclic, you are looking for precision more than torque, so coreless and doublebb seems the way to go. I use 9101.

Now that's not the fanciest setup, but it works great for me.

last year i was a bit skint so i put standard 3001 servos on everything apart from the tail of a Raptor 50 !!!.
I swapped them all this year for something a lot more powerful (9202's)and i cant tell much difference, so my point is are we all going a bit overboard on the power requirements of servos in 50 size heli's ?.
And yes I know ive opened a can of worms and im going to get slagged off for this, and yes i can fly proficiently enough to tell differences on my models !!!.
Your comments will be appreciated !!.

Cheers

i'm also using 811's on my raptor 50 all over except for tail, which has a 401/9253, it handles just about anything i can do, including funnels, tic-toc's, chaos i'm very happy with it.

i fly my 50 rappy with 591's on everything except tail, 401 and 9253 on there. i do have a 8231 to put on pitch though, i'll be interested to see what difference it makes. i was also thinking about 811's for the rest of the controls. i can't make my mind up.

cheers

Thanks for the input guys!
Sounds like I need to pick up a decent digital servo with some good torque for the collective, and may just leave the 811's for the rest to see how they fair...
