Yes, you can use 8 cells with the stock motor and ESC. The brushes will wear a little faster, but the power increase will be noticeable. For batteries, there are a bunch!! A couple I know of are Battery Station and Only Batteries. I'd reccomend either the Sanyo SCR 2600's or the GP3300's. Both are good batteries that will serve well in the VE.

3S4P 8000mah thunder power lipos do very very nicely. http://www.b-p-p.com has em. Flies forever on the huge packs with a nice weight savings and great power. Might be a little hard on the brushed motor, but the voltage drops a bit under load so not too bad.

A touch pricey, but you can use last gen lipo's on the big pack so not terribly outrageous. $229 I think.

Good Luck,

Mike

Mike,

I hate to disagree with you, but if he hooks up that 3s pack to the stock ESC...all the smoke is gonna come out. The stock esc is being pressed hard by an 8 cell pack and a fully charged 3s LiPO at well over 12v is going to be worse. I'll go back in my cave now, gotta get ready for MayDay !!

Sounds like the BEC on the stock controller is not up to 3s. Did a quick search and found someone else who burned one out. Doesn't sound like its worth the trouble. Blech. Sorry. Guess you'd need a different controller as well. You can limit the current you run through the motor easily enough. Watts are watts.

We run one here with a brushless hacker and these packs. Awesome for a small e ship. I'll bet you get sick of changing brushes, and nicads or nimh in a hurry if you stay with e heli's. Everyone I know did. The voyager is better when stretched as well.

Brushless. Lipo. The costs are almost reasonable on the smaller stuff.

Good Luck,

Mike

Mike,

No question on the brushless!! I have the Hacker C40-8L with a 3s4p 8200, Quick 15 head and the stretch mod running 470 blades. It flys circles around the stock VE.

An 8 cell Nihm will give you a little more pep and not risk exceeding the stock ESC amperage.
