I was browsing thru the June 2004 issue of Model Aviation. On page 145, There is an add for Davis Diesel Heads that states:

50% more power - .60 into a .90cu, etc
No glow plugs
Doubles flight times
Low noise

http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.com

Does anybody know anything about this?

Predator, Raptor 30, TRex CCPM 450TH, 3D Pro 400F

I'd hate to see a diesel engine equipped heli that had been flying around backwards inverted for a tank or two!!! Talk about nasty black sludge everywhere

Diesels can be a pain in the A if you can't get to the compression adjustment screw. In some helicopters access to the glow plug area can be very limited. Also, the fuel is expensive (unless you blend your own.....so,so results usually) and really stinks.

There are some other draw backs but somebody with more experience will have to tell you about them.

There is a reason NO ONE uses them. Probably more than one. I know that diesel exhaust will attack any vinyl glues and monocote and that's why the plane guy I saw with it routed a long tube a away from his plane, we can't keep exhaust away like that.

Back when I was a "know it all" I tried to use a dieselised 61 (webra) It started and ran great and would idle down to about 7000 RPM . After a bench run people from blocks around would come out of the woodwork and wonder what that "stench" was

diesel

Doug-- I had the same results with an OS 61 in a GMP competitor, the noise level was very nice, the ether and kerosene combination was a disaster.
