I just ordered a Hummingbird CP. I'm going to run the Hacker B20-22s motor and 3s TP1320 lipos. What size pinion should I use? I know there's a way to calculate it so the motor is in it's most effective RPM range, but I'm just not sure how.

Thanks

Pat

trial and error.

at 7 bucks each, you might want to try a 9,10, and 11 tooth pinion.

depending on how 'hot' your setup is, you are going to get different headspeeds.

this is based on motor, governor, esc, voltage, batt type, and gearing.

let us know how you make out.

buy a tach if you dont already have one.

The "hard chrome brass" 2mm pinions that helihobby sells for $6 each are available from http://www.towerhobbies.com for $3.79 each, plus "parts express" shipping which is a bit less than normal for tower. They're really Team Orion Micro RS4 pinions (I bought one from them). One example:

Just do a search for Orion and pinion. These pinions mesh perfectly with the HB gears, but may require some frame modifications to fit right. I've tried some other pinions, but so far these have the best mesh with the HB main gear.

A 10 (comes with the HB I think) or 11 tooth pinion would probably be best, given that you'll probably want a pretty high head speed with the HB CP. You might even try a 12.

> 2000 is desireable for a CP heli. about 1000 or so is what the FP heli runs I think.
