I've been flying my rapter 30 and can hover and fly foward flight. I pretty much have nose in hover to. Now I'm thinking of a second heli. Should I upgrade to a 50 or 60? Any thoughts on what would make a great second heli for a pilot coming off of a trainer?

Why not upgrade the Raptor 30 to a 50, makes an excellent advanced heli and does all the tricks in the book.
Buy a TT50 or OS 50 and a conversion kit and thats it !!

you might as well go to a 60 or above if you are going to upgrade.. your gona eventually get there, just depends on funds?? just rember, every heli has it's in's and outs, i have flown TT, century, and now getting into hirobo and to tell ya the truth i like them all.. just get what you can aford and if that's not a problem, get what you think looks good..

My first heli was an raptor 30, then I upgraded to an Raptor70 when I started out with loops etc, and now i whant my old 30 heli back again.. Its allways somthing wrong with thees 'big' helis, and i never get mine to do what i ask it to do, so buy yourself an Raptor 50 including the OS engine , not TT.

... We could trade, My raptor for your Raptor 30!

Slow down, yust kidding.
But buy yourself an 50 size heli, and you will get more power then in a 60 size one.

I think a nice 50 size is the best choice.

Looks almost unanimous. The .50 sized helicopters are excellent performers. In fact, they are better in some ways that a .60 or larger. For the power to weight - they scream. As for their size since they are smaller they can go almost anywhere. The parts are cheaper than a .60. They consume less fuel than a .60. So the choice is about which .50 to get.

I was just where you describe and felt the same way . . .

So I bought a Freya with a YS80. Big, heavy and powerful.

Then I discovered I was afraid to fly it so I quickly sold it. I'm not saying this will happen to you but it is not uncommon. That was a year ago. I'm in well over a year and now I feel ready.

The Raptor 50 is an excellent suggestion . . . UNLESS you want a physically larger heli. The body of a 50 is the same size. The power difference is great but 50 mm of blades is all you're going to get.

So if you want to fly a LARGER machine in the air, go for a 60. If you want to do a lot more with your 30, sell it and buy a 50 or upgrade it from a 30 to 50 with a TT kit.

I'm not really an R/C pilot, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last n

Fly that 30 a bunch more, get it to do everything in the book: FFF, 540 stall turns, autos, loops, rolls, precision nose-in maneuvers, etc. It's a lot cheaper to repair during the learning phase, and will build your confidence. Plus you'll have at least 1 season to save and shop for the next bird of your dreams.

Burn some fuel, and take the time to shop.

Flying helis since gyros had springs.

If all you can do is forward flight and some nose in hover you need to keep flying your 30 until you take it to its limits which it sounds like that is pretty far away..Then when you upgrade you can tell a difference in the capabilties of you bigger machine.....

I have to agree with Fullagas + Allns47,
I too fly a 30 and am thinking of changeing helis, the only difference is that I am thinking of changeing to the raptor 30 because it is far more capable than the nexus I have. I am stall turning looping and rolling my Nexus but I am at its limit.
So the raptor 30 is possibly the way to go. However it is definatly More capble than what you are doing. I would stay with the heli you have and learn to do more with it. from what I have seen it can take you a LOT further.
Of course at the end of the day the choice is yours and good luck with whatever you decide.
