An eclipse 7 with the spectra synth freq module will run you $220 shipped. A decent price, but you can get a Futaba 7CHF for $170, single channel crystal.

I opted for the hitec because I didn't want to ever worry about TX crystals again and the futaba synth freq modules are incompatible with berg receivers. So far I love it!

pbmax,

you are incorrect sir!

YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK!

I use a Futaba 9CHP with a BERG GIII flawlessly.

As long as you have the FM, and not PCM TX module, you can use almost any RX that is negative shift.

This person here can still get the 170 futaba, which is a MUCH nicer new radio, and upgrade later.

Weakest link? Look in the mirror, pal.

If I'm wrong, so is deetee enterprises:

http://www.deeteeenterprises.com/NS...rs.crystals.php

Quote from the site:
Again:
1) Spectra Synthesized Module in HiTec OK
2) Standard Module in any Transmitter OK
3) Spectra Synthesized Module in Futaba NOT OK
4) Any Synthesized Module in Futaba Not OK

Futaba Transmitters, "Using A Synthesized Module", have a non standard pulse rate that prevents the use of the Berg receiver. The Berg receiver works fine with any transmitter, including Futaba, with a standard frequency module.
I didn't say the futaba TXs wouldn't work, I said the synthesized frequency modules wouldn't work.

dude,

if you opt for a Hitec Laser radio over a Futaba I am not even going to entertain a debate with an ignorant person.

Bad advice dude. Bad advice.

your recommendation not mine.

Having used both (I own 2 futaba RC car transmitters and recently sold a 6XAs) I can say that I'm impressed by the quality and functionality of each of them.

I didn't reccomend a hitec laser, I reccomended a hitec eclipse 7. Please read my posts before you comment!

You don't have to get nasty and call me ignorant. Different strokes for different folks! My hitec eclipse 7 works great and has more than enough functionality to fly my helis well.

Have you ever used an eclipse 7? Do you even have the experience to comment?

Hah, I won't sink to your level

Do the research sworrix, buy the TX that has the features and price to match your needs.

Sworrix:

Yes please do the research.

Futaba 7a TX - $149

http://www.servocity.com/html/7ca_transmitter.html

http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/futj69.html

+ most BERG, Hitec, or Futaba RX's

+ most servos that fits your specific needs for your HB

~ $300

= Cheaper then

Hitec Eclipse 7 TX/RX only = $287

http://www.deeteeenterprises.com/NS...ipse.7.QPCM.php

Who in there right mind who not want a custom selection of servos and rx varieties under 300 bucks? Going the hitec way, which has less programming then the futaba would be almost 300 bucks for the TX/RX itself.

Yes PBMax, you are the more intelligent person here. I dont blame you for stepping down to my level of stupidity.

All the best sworrix.

If you do get the Futaba 7CAF, flip the throttle tensioner over to eliminate ratcheting for better throttle resolution (pretty important for helis!). They're $150 shipped from http://www.allerc.com.

I don't know what a Hitec laser 7 is, but the Eclipse 7 is $220 (shipped) from http://www.allerc.com with the spectra synthe module (transmitter only). Here's the hitec link:

http://www.hitecrcd.com/Radios/eclipse.htm

And the allerc link:

http://www.allerc.com/transmitters.htm

Really, the two radios are pretty even as far as features go. One handy feature the hitec has that my 6XAs didn't have (and the 7C doesn't have) is two knobs, one for fine throttle adjustment and one for fine pitch adjustment. Very handy for CP helis so you don't have to menu surf so much.

If you're on a budget, go with the Futaba. The 7CAF is the air version, the 7CHF is the heli version. The heli version has different labels on the exterior of the transmitter (For the various switches) and a ratchet-less tensioner on the throttle stick. They are both identical on the inside, so if you don't have a problem yanking the TX apart to flip the tensioner, the 7CAF is a quick $20 savings.

I went with the hitec because it was the most inexpensive way I found to a synthesized frequency module (with berg RX compatibility too).

Hey JG,
Why can't you just keep it civil. There is no reason to attack someone for their opionions which are probably just as good if not better than yours. If you had just looked a little closer at the servocity site, you would have found the Eclipse 7 with a single channel module for $179, a little more than the 7ac, but not the $150 difference you make it out to be. If there were any "ignorant person" responding to this thread, I think most reasonable people would be able to see who it was, and it is not Pbmax.
