For a receiver if you want a decent one, get a Berg5. Otherwise go with a cheapo GWS 4-ch. Make sure you match the shift type to your transmitter if getting a non-berg! (bergs are auto-shift)

For batteries, I'd go with lithium polymers, starting with a 2s (2 series) etec 1200mah pack - 7.4v. But before you even think about lithium polymer, read this:

http://www.allerc.com/lithiumaccept.htm

Only use a charger designed for li-poly to charge li-poly. A cheap example of this is the Hobbico mk2 field charger ($50). I have this and it's pretty good, but it won't fully charge poly packs (will only charge to 4.1v per cell instead of the 4.2v max). I also have a great planes triton charger ($130) that will let you manually configure your cells and will charge all the battery types, not just li-poly. You can do a search for chargers in here for other favorite types.

For real power with the himax, go with a 3s poly pack. I have a couple of etec 3s (11.1v) 1200mah poly packs and the HB really screams with one of those in it.

This should give you a good starting point!
