Do you have a used (or new, but not wanted) camera mount for sale?

I'm interested in something like the Airfoil, but I will consider anything that works well.

I can't justify the new price right now as this is for some experiments at this time.

My camera ship will be an X-Cell Gas.

The camera's will be either a Sony VX1000 DVR or a 5 MP digital still camera about the size of a small 35MM film camera.

Feel free to send me a PM or an email if you have a mount that you purchased but just don't use or have a used one for sale.

I'll consider paying USD or trading for some heli equipment that I have.

How about a new mount system for $399? Our official opening will be at the MAYDAY HELI FUN FLY in Sulphur Louisiana this weekend but here is a sneek peek at HeliCam Solutions...
The website is 90% complete. Wanted to come back from the fun fly with great video and pics.

Wow that is a nice looking system. It looks familiar, I could swear that I have seen that design before.

I have several of the camera mounts from airfoil and I could not be any happier with the performance service and support from the gang at airfoil. I also believe in supporting the comapny that put in all of the original R&D in the mount, as anyone can produce a knock off.

I love the carbon 30 and I believe that they are the same price as some of the knock offs. I don't have one that I want to part with, however they are affordable and priced at $399.00

A key is how the system isolates the vibration, be sure to ask your perspective seller/maker about this.

Let’s face it. There are two ways to mount the camera. In front of the heli, or underneath. Airfoils solution is the simplest method to mount the camera underneath just using simple straight sections of carbon fibre tube. There is nothing novel and clever here. I have seen shelf systems years ago that are based on exactly the same design. Tubes and blocks that hold the tubes together. All the research and development John did is his magic and patented rubber loops that hold the mount on the heli.

I like Jody’s mounts. They have a much better sandwich design for the U which has proven to work well and I am sure it is lighter and more rigid than bent aluminium pieces. One comment only for Jody… I think that the mount would look much nicer with black plastic. Jody, keep up the good work. I think this area needs some competition because the former monopoly has a lot of ego for their products. Soon they will tell us they invented the concept of mounting cameras on helicopters too!

Hi Guys,

Let's not debate the good/bad points of various systems, that would be the content of a totally different thread.

Yes, I realize that these systems have been around for a while, as I have . I've even tried to build some myself. I've done in flight video before and even mounted camera's well before any of these companys were on the market, that doesn't mean that I can take credit for the design that they are using.

This thread was to ask if anyone had a used system for sale. I'm trying to save some money for something that may only be used a few times and then put on a shelf.

A lot of my ideas start with a lot of enthusiasm. But then something else get's my attention, or my idea wasn't all that I thought it would be.

So *This* time I thought I would look for a used camera mount, surely someone does the same thing that I often do, purchase good equipment, use it a few times, then it gathers dust on a shelf.

So the content of this thread should be to discuss any potential used camera mounts available.

If someone wants to give me a new commercial system for the price of a used system, feel free to send an email. I'll be happy to write a review and report my findings.

Please don't fill this thread with brand bashing, or personality confflicts. Suggested alternatives are welcome though, and I appreciate seeing new products, but I'll encourage such companys to contact me with their sweet offer!

If anyone is a SCUBA diver, I may consider trading a nice Nikonos V camera for a nice camera mount system. But considering the value, it would probably have to be a new one.

Jody, thanks for the link, I'll review the content later because I can't view it easily. You may want to check your web pages. Scroll bars are disabled so I can't easily read your pages.

Whole new meaning to the phrase "Cheap Shots"

"The bueaty of Knock Offs, There is nothing like, having Nothing tied up in R&D."

Maybee you can tell us what your repair and support service is like. I trashed one of the airfoil mounts as a result of an engine quitting. John at Airfoil offered to repair the mount for free, even though it was through no fault of his own that I damaged one of his systems.

Flyboy, obviously you didn't think much before you write this and it will now backfire. You keep telling us that you are not sponsored and you are not receiving any benefits for doing what you are doing; advertising Airfoil and burring all others. But now you tell us that you had your mount repaired for free. What a surprise! This is the least John could do to keep an active forum member like you adverting his products. Let's see if John will repair everyone broken mount for free. I would like to hear this from him online on this tread; that he will repair every broken Airfoil mount for free! Until he offers this service to everyone we have every right to believe that you are biased.

having nothing tied up in R&D
Flyboy,

I beg to differ with you. I personally have been working with JPrather for almost three years helping design and test various camera mounting systems. His current product is the culmination of all this design, prototype fabrication, and testing. He has even bought, and tried to use one of the most widely known systems only to find it unreliable and poorly manufactured.

Your statement is not only based on ignorance of the situation, but is just plain wrong.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

The offer from Airfoil was made in public, here on the forum. No secret to that.

I am not standing behind the product because it is benificial to me, I stand behind the product because it performs extreemly well. The service and support that Airfoil provides, just adds to my overall satisfaction.

"The pictures don't lie and either do the numbers."

Thanks for sharing the facts.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post. I have somehow managed to submit the message twice.

By the way... Cybershots, do you have a website?

Hey guys,

I started this thread to find a used mount that someone may not be using any more, not to have you guys brand bash.

If you want to do this, take it to email or somewhere else, ok?

I have things I like and dislike about every mount out there. No one is perfect. But I don't go and brand bash!

The same thing goes for heli's, engines, fuel, blades, etc. Everyone is different in some way. No need to bash.

So please stop the bashing, this thread is to help me find a used mount at a good price.

Thanks!

Flyboy,
that’s nice. Then it should be no problem for him to publicly offer this to everyone. Because if he doesn’t, it would mean that you are getting preferential treatment. And of course this makes you continue badmouthing every other mount on the market so that you get preferential treatment in the future.

ImRich,
Sorry for the bashing, but think on the positive side. Your thread keeps coming back on the top of the list. Perhaps someone will see it and respond.

it would seem that the Cybershots1 profile was created for the sole purpus of bashing Airfoil since that's all he's done in the 3 posts he has.

I'd suggest that is someone is bashing, just ignore them! Don't respond in any way.

So let's reverse John's mentioned trend and have the good people ignore anyone who starts to bash.
