Brisk wind yesterday so I tried to follow a stunt kite with the helicam:
http://209.206.185.102/stuntkite.wmv

My BlackWidow downlink just showed today and I hopefully
will have a new M1-30mount w/ pan this week.
This non-cam operator (video) foolishness is coming to an end

Cheers,
Jeff

Fun video!

You'll like the BWAV system, it works great. I have two of them now.

Jeff, you'll be spoiled with a cameraperson along. It will take you 1/10th of the time it does now!

Who are you drafting?

Nice!

Enjoyed that quite a bit. It appears you dont have to worry about crowd control... Beautiful country

Ethan,
I'll be drafting my better half. We have been using Black Widow's SpiderMite downlink for the last 4 (still shot) outings and Adele is getting the hang of it. The one thing I'm worried about is the pan/tilt movement making a mess out of the video? I think I'll put a huge amount of expo and see where that gets us.

The only crowd control performed at the house was back in the Raptor days when I was hovering over a fire during a party.

also, watched this last night on hd.net:

incredible aerial footage!

Cheers,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Regarding your pan/tilt giving the video fits, if you were sharing the same battery then the servo noise can get injected into the power line and mess with the video. If they draw a lot of current then you might be sagging below the nominal voltage rating of the tx. If your servos can handle the extra cell, go to 5 cells, that should help a little bit. Also, implementing a LDO 5v regulator with supporting capacitors (even though you are already around 5v) will clean things up a lot.

I love the raptor shot, it looks like a shot from war of the worlds!

I found through experience that using pan and tilt can over-complicate things with video work. When I was shooting my last feature film I ended up disabling the pan capability and I turned the heli for round for any pan required. I found this much much smoother and allowed the camera operator to concentrate on the tilt.
