http://www.xfc-rc.com/ - 6/11 - 6/13

As the first invitational event of its kind, the XFC committee has brought together the top fixed-wing and helicopter pilots from around the world for a freestyle competition. What you will see at the XFC is both original and creative. We call it 3D because the stunts are intended to exploit the capabilities of the aircraft on every axis and in every direction possible. In many cases these stunts are far beyond the limits of full size aircraft. The XFC is geared specifically towards entertaining the spectator and challenging the pilot. Come and see what all the excitement is about!!
XFC 2004
Required Stunts – Helicopter

1. Vertical ½ Roll with 4 Point Inverted Pirouette with ½ Roll Backwards Inverted Exit

Model flies straight and level parallel to the flight line for 10m before pulling into a 90-degree vertical ascent on the centerline. While climbing vertically the model performs a ½ axial roll (either direction) and continues vertically. At the top of the ascent the model executes a ¼ inside tumble (rear cyclic) followed by a stationary inverted hover. After a minimum 2 second pause the model begins a series of four 90-degree rotations (either direction) on the yaw axis, pausing at each point a minimum of 2 seconds. Upon completion of the last point the model will be pointed in the same direction as at the start of the rotation. The model then performs a ¼ outside tumble (forward cyclic) followed by a vertical backward descent on the original centerline. The model then performs a ½ axial roll (either direction) followed by a 90-degree exit parallel to the ground flying backwards inverted for another 10m.

Significant points will be deducted for the following reasons:

o Ascending/descending segments are not at true vertical
o Ascending/descending segments are not centered on pilots position
o Model drifts vertically or horizontally during 4 point pirouetting segment
o Point pauses are less than 2 seconds in duration
o Entry and exit elevations are not at the same altitude and parallel to the flight line

2. Pirouetting Loop with Yaw Reversals

Model flies straight and level for 10m parallel to the flight line while performing continuous pirouettes (rotating either direction) at a constant rate. As the model crosses centerline model begins ½ a vertical loop while continuing to pirouette. At the top of the loop the pirouetting direction is reversed for the second half of the loop. At the bottom of the loop the model again reverses the pirouetting direction and continues for another 10m in a straight line parallel to the flight line.

Significant points will be deducted for the following reasons:

o Figure not centered on pilots position
o Each half of loop figure not equal and symmetrical
o Rate of pirouetting not constant
o Model drifts off course during yaw reversals

3. Forward Rolling Circle With Roll Reversals

Model flies straight and level for 10m parallel to the flight line. At centerline the model begins a continuous rolling half circle (rolling right or left) away from the pilot. As the model crosses the centerline of the circle (side opposite from the pilot position) the roll direction is reversed for the second half of the circle. As the model crosses the centerline again (side closest to the pilot position) the roll direction is again reversed and one straight roll is performed parallel to the flight line.

Significant points will be deducted for the following reasons:

o Roll rate and forward progress not consistent
o Altitude varies during rolling or roll reversals
o Each half of figure not equal size and symmetrical
o Model drifts in the yaw axis during roll reversals

Just checked the radar...today is not looking good at all. Hope for better tomorrow.

Flying a heli is like seeing the Matrix, it is a mind bending experience.

If anyone is at the event and can post here, could you let us know if things are still planned for the weekend and what if anything has changed schedule wise? I wondering if all the rain is going to have a big impact on the airplane guys trying to take off and land on a wet field.

Sundays flight order....

1 Curtis Youngblood 2000.0000
2 Alan Szabo 1983.3622
3 Pete Niotis 1806.3493
4 Mark Fadely 1759.2312
5 Jim Stark 1715.9862
6 Paul Soha 1680.4348
7 Scott Gray 1657.7110
8 Marcus Kim 1639.7406
9 Marty Kuhns 1637.1695
10 Mike Trueblood 1634.1214

Day 1.... bad weather! But got all flights in..... flew till dark!
Alan Szabo was not allowed to fly his known flight due to mis communication with the officials.

Day 2.... bad weather in the morning and changing wind conditions all day, mostly at the filght line... A few crashes, a few disqualifications.

Day 3.... Sending alot of very talented and well known people home early... the level of competetion was outstanding.

The preasure of competing in an event of this nature in not even describeable for many pilots!! And some seem to excel under that preasure. I can understand why many top notch pilots have no intrest in this stuff!

Going to the field now... weather looking for today.

For me, I did like the experiance, taking all my stuff home in one piece, and am now looking forward to the rest of the fun fly season.

And Ken... there were alot of tents that got wiped out!! But I had NOTHING to do with it!!
