i started the x-spec and ran it up, shut down, started again and then all of the sudden it seemed like my clutch locked up?? when i would turn the starter shaft the rotor head would turn also. when i got to looking at it my clutch wasn't locked but something else? i held the starter shaft and forcefully turned the rotor head and got it to turn but some small metal shaveings fell out and i don't know where they came from?? after playing around with it, it finally let loose but now i have a whineing noise when i turn my main gear, that noise may be something different though.

thanks

the mechanics do 'whine' a bit. I've heard it on
many machines.

In your case, I'll bet that the nut that holds the
fan on has come loose (ie. not enough loctite
or torque during assembly). It was hard to
turn because it was jamming the
back of the clutch and the crankshaft.

Drop the engine and clutch and look.

It's possible that your entire fan/clutch-assembly came loose and worked its way up the threads on the crankshaft.

This would make the top of the clutch press hard against the inside of the clutch bell and explain the metal shavings you saw.

In any case : remove the engine and make sure everything is as it should be before you attempt to start/fly it again!

found the problem...

it was the clutch bolts had backed out to where it was touching the bell houseing... that sucked!!! not damage but replaced the bolts and will be test flying that frozen engine again, man, that thing is hard to start!!!
