I had some problems with the tail kicking every so often. Now, before anyone says engine, I thought that was the problem, so I swapped out my OS 91 with a brand new YS91 and flew it with the break in settings. After break in, leaning it out did not help. As the machine spools up, the tail will start to kick. If you get the head speed high enough, it starts to go away. But, on hard climbouts or in FFF it will occasionally kick. Battery? No way. I dumped my NIMh pack and put a nicad 4 cell in. No change. Now I run a 2200 LiPo with a reg. No change. I have tried every combination of tail belt tension. I made a grounding strap for the tail boom. No change. I have had the engine so rich and lean it would barely run, no change. I disconnected the 601, out a 401 and 9253 in. Better, but still there. I have relocated my whip antenna 6 times, no effect. I have looked for every single place any metal comes in contact with CF and locked it down. Swapped my PCM receiver with another PCM receiver. When I installed the YS, runout was .0005 at the base and tip of the start shaft, consistent with the crankshaft runout. The tail pitch linkage is so free moving you could probably blow on it and change pitch if it were disconnected. The only thing I have been able to think of is there is some sort of EMI between the GV-1 and 601 amps. I installed a metal shield between the 601 sensor and frame mine was older and did not come with the plate). I also fabricated a similar shield to go between the amps. I absolutely love this bird (especially with the KO Propo 2123...thanks) but I am getting too frustrated to fly it.
