My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I recently tried to get G2 to work again and finally gave up. It turns out my HP CDRW/DVD ROM does not like G2's copy protection.

I am not replacing the drive, as when the drive is not the issue the printer port dongle only works when the wind is blowing from the east, the temp is 85.5 degrees and the mail is delivered at 1:02pm. I moved G2 to my other PC and sure enough it worked for one day only and then the next day the mail came early!!!!

What else is good? Rick's site favors True Flight. I would like to use my own TX (JR 10X) but it's not a deal breaker. I run WinXP, GeForce4, Athlon XP 1900, 512Ram. I will not consider any DOS based products.

I had a problem with the video working with XP..and found out 3d drivers arent available for my video card running under XP... So I run dual operating systems ME and XP.. If you think it is your cd Rom drive.. (not likely though) just buy a cheap 52X spin cd rom drive for 12 bucks off pricewatch.com. I use two cd-rom drives anyway for burning cds on the fly
good luck.... BTW... if I spent 200 bucks on a product that didnt work.. I would spend another 20 bucks to get it right.. Hope this helps....

I am out of IDE ports. I have three hard drives and CDRW. I also use various versions of Unix, so an add-on Promise controller would have driver issues/availability.

It's the HP drive, the copy protection worked fine until I upgraded the drive. But I still have issues beyond that. The dongle is a pain in the a***. It insists on having a printer attached and the printer has to be on!!!! If the printer is off, the TX does not work. I am just fed up with it, I have had issues with that dongle since the early versions of Real Flight. I am not going to invest in the USB, as the copy protection is still there with my HP drive. I also think the physics are poor.

Offer to trade someone for the old stye controller then im sure someone would like to have the transmitter interface. A lot of guys in my club use realflight and theres a meeting tonight ill see if anyone wants to trade you.

There is a strong possibility you have a bad copy of G2?... Have you installed it in anyother PC and got it working?... If not, I would call Great Planes and Have them send you another one in exchange for what you have....

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		How do you do a full install where you dont have to use the cd? I have the G2 and I would love to just start it anytime wihout hunting up the cd .. Also I have had the same troubles with my printer and the transmitter interface .. drives me insane sometimes ,but if I catch myself I can turn the printer off and it will be ok .. Incidentally I built my computer from scratch and so I dont think that the troubles with the G2 are rare.. I have the same problems with my wifes computer and the G2 too

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I did more than a full install, I formatted the drive!!!! I wanted a clean registry, so I reloaded WinXP from scratch. I then did a 'Full' install. It installs with no errors. I WILL NOT run on my HP CDRW/DVD ROM drive. Pull the drive, put a plain jane CD drive in and it works.

RealFlight had no reason for such an elaborate copy protection. The dongle or dummy interface makes you buy this junk.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		As well as G2 works as a training aid and practice tool, if I were in your situation I would seriously consider getting a PCI IDE controler and a standard CD-ROM drive. The controler can be purchased for about $10 and the CD-ROM for about the same or less. It is much cheaper than selling the G2 at a loss and buying another sim that you wont be entirely happy with anyway.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Well, since you own your copy of G2 there should be no problem to make a image of the disc and run it from the harddrive. If you have enough space on your harddrive.

Use CloneCD on a friends computer where G2 works and make the image. Then you just have to copy the image to your computer. And then use DaemonTools to mount your image as it's own cd-player.

Couldn't be easier.
