Yeah, I forgot my chemistry. Probably made a lot of aluminum hydroxide.

The thing is even with all that time the anodizing is still partly on there. There is severe pitting and the anodizing remains.

If you can get the rest of the anodizing off you can take some 1200 grit sandpaper and work you way up. Sanding on the head block is not going to hurt anything or blade grips. Polishing in the grooves of the bell hiller arms is going to be... well real hard.

It can be salvaged and used, but it is going to take some elbow grease and it is never going to look polished... well, not at least without a lot of work and know how.

The Manufacturers should offer the darn parts in a silver or aluminum finish as well as a couple of other colours so we don't have to go through this.

Get yourself a polishing wheel or better still a refinishing buffer and clamp it to a workbench, add plenty of metal polish and buff away, they will look polished when you’ve finished.

Okay sounds good. What about those little hard to reach areas? I guess I would have to reach for the Ol' Dremel once again.

Not sure if you have tried this, but use paint stripper. I used that for my anodized parts and it takes it right off no problem, no corrosion and no harm to you or your surroundings.

I used LePage Poly super strippa or Circa Heavy Body Paint and Varnish remover.

This stuff is great, at first I was doubting it would do much, but brush it on and let it sit for 30 seconds or a bit more, you'll notice the anodizing ruffle due to the chemicals stripping it.

Acetone, paint thinner, turpentine, etc are great for paint, but anodizing is resistent to it. Maybe if you soaked it for a while but it would evaporate before it would do anything.

That messed up your finish.
Follow it up with a satin polishing wheel in a Dremel.
