LOL

Baja if you would notice, I TO AM A HELI PILOT! But one thing that makes me a better pilot is, I know what heck I am talking about and I know engines. How many engines do you pull apart and mod? I bet none.....I know the difference between helis and boats, the biggest being the heli engine will NEVER put out even close to power we are running not to mention run the wide power bands we do. Load for load your little peanut motor will never see the loads we do in any attitude. As far as burping, I haven't a single burp since an OS 50 with an 60B carb and yes I have one of those to, even though you are probably saying "that's not possible". How will you know unless you try? Improvement is done through testing, some move ahead while others pass them by....I guess you'll go to the end of the line....BU---BYE....

603 on the way

Hey Helibuzz:

I have a 603 on the way to replace the 677. I should have it by the end of this week but I won't be able to test it until I get back from vacation/business trip in May.

Safe_Cracker:

What ARE you talking about? Sounds like you are on "crack" as your name insinuates. I think you need to step back and go back and reread your post about the boats, and then read my reply as someone who read your post and didn't know anything else about you. How am I supposed to know what you fly or what you do? I don't research people who write here. Anyway, sounded like you were a boat guy to me.

So anyway, you should know what midrange is, AND, we are talking gas engines here, not nitro OS 50's. So how do you know how good or not good of a heli pilot I am? And how do you know if I disassemble engines or not? Yes I don't modify stock engines habitually, but I can tear down any engine to pieces and put it back together. And that doesn't stop at hobby engines. Anyway, enough said.

Oh by the way, my name is Raja not Baja. Read a little more closely next time. Thanks, and I'm done replying.

-=>Raja.

603 from Daves

Mine came in today, actually I got a 688 first but then called them (Brad) to let them know they're not the same. He sent me a replacement WT603A 2 day mail with a return label for the 688. Great service from these guys if you're looking to buy the 603A. Highly recommended.

Bill - I'm gonna remove the choke butterfly and mount this baby up!
I'm anxious to see the difference over my 677 (which by the way is still running okay - not great, but better with no hesitation at all)

Stay tuned!

Walbro 603A

Well I installed the carb and took it out briefly today. All I can say is WOW - what a difference! I noticed it immediately on spool up. I purposely left the GV-1 disengaged to get a feel for the stock curves - which had to be reduced at hover by 3-5 % over the 677 so far. I let the engine warm up and did some mild vertical climb outs - no stutter at all. In fact it just went back to the idle drone with no drama.

I then engaged the idle up and took it around on some circuits - again sweet. This carb is waaaayyyyy better even when I had the 677 running alright, it didn't come close.

Back out tomorrow for some more fun!

So far, so good.

RussR,

What blades and fuel/oil are you running? Keep us posted on the progress. Thanx.

I might not be very good, but I'm fun to watch.

Blades & Gas:

I run TG 710's from Ricks and Coleman Fuel with 5.5 ozs of Penzoil Marine Synthetic as per Bergen's recommendation. I must say the engine runs very smooth now with this carb.

5.5Oz is still too much oil in my opinion

I have the same carb, runing same gas but with 3 Oz of Klotz. Try reducing it.
Bill uses 2 oz of amsoil but i rather use 3 oz. You can bearly notice the smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I was thinking that as well. This last batch was mixed when I was running the 677, which was supposed to atomize leaner, needing more oil.

I wanted to keep the variables to a minimum when comparing the carbs, hence back to back comparisons using the same fuel. Without a doubt, it will perform better in my opinion than what I got from the 677 to date.

Juice box

Well here is the verdict, With the juice box installed on the 260puh with the 677 carb the problems have disappeared the power seems to have increased a noticable amount. On climbout going from a hover to full throttle the response is great when I chopped the throttle hard, no more skip in the engine as before, All in all the juice box gives alittle better performance than the 603a. for those looking to cure the problem thios has done it for me. I am running the low end a tad leaner and have noticed that the fuel consumption is much better with the bos installed. I now have 3 gallons through it with no issues so far.

Gary,

Please tell me what a "juice box" is .

I have seen this term used here, but not sure what you are talking about.

Thanks,

My son is drinking out of a juice box right now... I'll grab it from him when he's finished and try to figure out how it works!

I should be getting my Xcell gasser conversion tomorrow. I understand it will have a 231 engine. From this post, it sounds like it will come with a 677 carb.

Should I try the 677 or just go with a 603 (or juice box for the 677)? Cost isn't a consideration.

Thanks,

Dave Thomas

643 -

Maybe they're shipping the new ones (231) with the 643 instead of the 677? Could it be?

In relation to the juice box, I'm glad it's working for you. I can say that I've had only one tank through my 231 with the newly installed 603a and I am a believer - what a difference.

643

Horizon web site lists the 231 as comming standard with a 643 and the 260 as comming with a 677.

Update -

Running the 603 with 3.5 oz to the gal of previosuly discussed gas/oil mixture this weekend. Lot's smoother and it just drones - sweet sound!
Adjusted the throttle curves some more, hover is now about 38% @ 1650. Did some mild circuits, rolls, and fast eights - then took it up high for a loop, no drama at all. Next time around the park, up high, bank for a roll, execute - crisp. This baby is tracking now! Finally, line it up for a nice large loop, hold it, hold it...inverted hover for about 10 seconds - again not even a burp! Vertical climb rate is awesone too!

This is a sweet combo.
