I am thinking about running a flybarless head for my airwolf.

I have heard talk of people putting gyros on them to make them more stable.

Looking throught the tower ad I noticed this gyro:

Would this thing work? I was just thinking it would do two axis without the bulk of two gyros.

Thoughts, anyone?

uh.........NO

Please take the following advise on a multi head/flybarless gyro unit.

Check out the helitronix mixer on Joe Howards website. Combine that with a couple of rate gyro's and your set.

I have heard from several guys (including a conversation with Dr.. Tim today) that the 2 blade flybarless is not really a big deal to work with "naked".

I plan on using the helitronix on a couple of multi-blade machines I'm working on now........

I would also discourage the Vario brand unit, in light of the helitronix.

How do you get heavier blades than the 421 blades that came with the CS Benzin kit.

Why not use the Gyro from Vario. It is specifically made for flybarless rotor heads. Here is a quote from their web site. -Steve

"The Multiblade Gyro is designed to be used in model helicopters with a directly controlled (i.e. flybar-less) rotor head, and stabilises the model's flight attitude in the axes of pitch and roll".

Oh right. I forgot.. if you are using it on the skyfox you can get the 407 Blades for flybarless head. Not sure if the 421 is heavy enough for the flybarless head though.

My LHS has a vario unit that was returned due to malfunction.

I have also heard that this was a common trend.

I will not be getting the vario unit.

As AGRAV8 put it

Multi-bladed heads are the same. Working without a flybar or gyro is just "different". It will pitch up into the relative wind. If flying backwards, it will pitch tail up into the direction of flight. If flying sedeways, it will pitch up into the direction of travel. You need to hold cyclic in the direction of travel, that's all.
