This is the begining of the build on my model of the Hanger 9 Super Cub. I have read all the threads on RCU and found this plane to be an excellent model to break into 1/4 scale. So far this is what I have and followd by what I need to know from you guys.

1) Hanger 9 Super Cub
2) RCS ROTO 35
3) Futaba 9C Tx & Rx

The future holds many ideas and problems. The first is that the ROTO 35 is a rear carbed engine. So far I have outlined where I need to remove material from the firewall. It was not that much but enough to were I feel more comfortable adding a buffer to the rear of the firewall. I plan on mounting the electronic ignition to the inside of the firewall.

This is the first model I know of that is using the ROTO 35. If you are using it in an other plane, please add to this post, or email me. I am interested. Photos will be coming in the future. The 35 may be a little large but, I plan on adding a video and telemitry system to aid in my study of aeronautics.

I wish to get my lisence to fly this year. I tell my wife that if she gives me a hard time I'll take the savings, move to Austrailia and become a bush pilot. She does not like that very much! every man needs an out.

I'll be adding to this post as I go along. I welcome you to add comments, positive and negetive. Both aid in costruction and decisions.

The only question I have now is how do you remove wrincles from the covering? The covering is wrinkled above the firewall back to the cockpit.

Thanks!

Heli dudes...

This thread about my Super Cub Build is over here on RR because I realy do' not enjoy the RCU format for some reason. It is much easier for my fellow heli dudes to check out my other projects here on RR, so here it will be.

And because it will have video, telemetry and other gak inside I wish to post my progress and have input from all of you. I know tha most of you are also plankers.

Please enjoy learn and help if you wish....

A heat gun or hair dryer with the intake covered(get slightly hotter, be careful) will make those wrinkles dissapear. Be sure to kep the heat gun moving or you will burn a hole in the covering.

What a small world, I am in NY for the weekend on Business.

Good luck with the fixed wing project.

Some Extra Time

Here is what I have done so far. The Roto 35 is quite the engine. Overpowered? I would think so but where is the fun of being like everyone else?

Side View

This is a side view of the 35 using the H9 engine mounts. After speaking with some pilots that have built this or other gassers, I have decided that a anti-vibration mount was not neaded.

hanger 9 piper cub UAV

i am building a piper cub uav for a school project. We are using a micropilt auto pilot, we derived all the equations and transfer functions to design the control system. Using maxstream radio modem for telemetry. send me an email if you have any questions. oh we are also using zenoah g-26 for power

Some throttle mods

Here are some mods I made to the throttle arms on the Roto 35. I was not happy with adapting my way of doing things to the Roto needs, so I changed the throttle arms. These arms are from Bergen Helicopter, and are used on the throttle of the Zenoah PUH231 gasser engine. The only thing needed to have them fit on the Roto 35 is the throttle arm was drilled to 4mm and the choke arm was drilled to just under 5mm.

Hi Frequency47 -

Just getting my Hanger9 J-3 Cub airborne for the first time, it flies well. There is a wireless video set-up on mine, no UAV or telemetry as yet.

I see you are using a gasser engine. Are you worried that the high voltage ignition system may interfere with your electronics? I built mine with a glow engine, to avoid that interferance. I would be interested to know if I could use a gasser without shielding the ignition system.

Cub

The ignition on theRoto 35 is completely seperate from the Rx. Different battery, switch and the like. I am two week away from a flight if things are well. I hope for 4th of July weekend.

Hi

I had finished this plane and set up a thread or two on RCU. The purists over here did not carefor it being on RR. As far as the Roto's go...

They are great engines so far. It was worth the 400+ dollars but I am no longer in the mood for nitro or gas, so I am converting over to electric.
