Helo,
I know how to fly an heli and how to take digital photos so... Can I earn money with aerial photos?.
I am thinking about it because I need money but, before starting, I would know the opinion of those who know this bussines like you.
Could it be a professional job (not a hobby to earn few coins)?
Thank you very much, your opinnion is important for me

The question is do you feel you have the ability to put the heli and camera together and do you have the ability and desire to convince somebody to pay you for a picture. If YOU feel you can make it work then... ...yes... ...you can make a living at it. The amount of money you can earn is up to YOU and how you promote your product. All you have to have is someone with a need for this. I believe there are limitless applications for what we are doing. Therefore, if you are willing to match you services to their needs you can make a huge opportunity for yourself!

You can earn a living at this, but it's going to be just as hard as anything else in life. You get what you put into it. This includes the amount of money. Sure you can make a little side money doing this on the side, but to make a living, it's a little harder, bills don't stop when you are not working.

Also, to make a living you have to pay TAXES on your earning, so take 30% off of your revenue, then you have to pay someone else to be either your cameraman or pilot, then you have fuel, repairs, INSURANCE, etc.

If you want to do this for a living, then you are going to have to work at it just like you would at any other job. It's not going to be easy money. If you just do it for a side job, you will probably break even with your hobby, plus have a little bit more to buy dinner.

To make a living, you will have to invest a lot of time AND money. Like I said, you get what you put into it. Can it be done, YES definately, but it's not easy money.

franpla,

With my current full time job I need to work around 225 days a year (taking out weekends, annual leave and bank holidays). To make a comparable income from aerial photography I would have to do about 8 jobs each 5 day week. However this does not include expenses such as insurance, fuel, parts for the heli and putting money aside to recover the cost of the equipment. To cover these too someone would need to do about 10 jobs a week.

I also believe that a big number of jobs are from estate agents and since they are your best customers you can’t charge them the full price. An estate agent would not pay £100 (US$180) for each property. Thus you will need to do even more jobs each week.

If you think you can find 3+ jobs per day, yes you can make a living by doing it full time.

You also need to have the weather on your side. If it is very cold in the winter you might not be able to take pictures. Rain also could ruin a photo shoot. Some customers would like good lighting like sunrise or sunset. Also cloudy days don't look as good as sunny.

I think the weather plays a pretty big role in a shoot.

Note that weather effects aerial shots from a model just as well as a full size machine.

Toad,

You probably would get better photos on a cloudy day. Use photoshop to lighten and balance the photos on the computer. You wouldn't have nasty shadows this way.

At least that's what I think

peronal information

Sorry Flyboy and Mark Johnson,
Now my personal infromation is O.K. (I Think).

As you can see I am from Sapin, that is the reason of my poor english.

In Spain nobody (or just few people) uses the rc helis to take aerial photos. If you want it you have to contract traditional airplanes and it is very expensive.
That is the reason I am trying to introduce this new product, in order to satisfy this demand in a cheaper way.

As you can see in my personal information I am an industrial ingeneer and I have been working as logistic manager and production director during some years, but now i realize this life is to live in I way you can enjoy with your family an your son indeed if you have to sacrify money . So one day I decided to stop with my crazy life, and re-start it with another values.... Well that is the main reason of my question, if Aerial photos are a way o earning money for me and my family I will try it.
Thank you very much

My personal view on this is that it's a bit like soccer. There's a lot of people who play soccer and a handfull that make a living doing it and a few that make a lot of money. There's money at the top of any game example: http://www.flying-cam.com. As a business proposition, be aware that there's a big difference between owning a camera and being a professional photographer. When you look at your profit and loss accounts note that you make money from your business activities i.e. selling your services. The equipment does not make any money on its own, in fact it appears in the "loss" column. However even as a hobbyist looking to make a few €100s every now and again around your day job that's got to be about the sweetest money you'll ever earn.
