Hi,

I'm new to this forum and just flying helis.

I'm serious about doing the helicam thing. I see everyone else on this forum posting big bada$$ pics of their rigs. I'm about to order an M130 mount from airfoil for my nexus .46 to get started and see if the cash starts coming in!

If things go well, I'm going to upgrade to a JR Venture 50 for a while and take it from there.

I know the nexus is old and definitely not a rolls royce but is it feasable to get SELLABLE pictures with this rig?

I can slap down the mega cash and get multiple REAL rigs like some of you guys, but I haven't convinced my wife that you can acutally make money doing this, and nothing that I show her, other than checks rolling in, will change her mind! Until i get some work going ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Part of the reason that I have this problem with my wife is because I have had some ideas in the past that have not payed off. I worked really hard at them, but never could get them going. I guess I live in the wrong area for original ideas. I want to try to make this work though, this seems right up my alley. It's highly technical and requires a certain amount of hard-to-master skill (heliflying). Also, if it doesn't pan out, I'm sure posting my used rig on this forum will get me most of my money back, but I don't want to think about that.

Hey buddy, you've helped me out a few times so far. Maybe the next time I'm in kalamazoo, I'll look you up (that will probably be next year some time). Thanks.

Anyway, I will probably just get an M1 30 mount from airfoil to start though. Before spending a lot of time building a mount, I would like to see whether or not this will work out. Like I said, I can probably sell an airfoil mount and get most of my money back out of it if it doesn't pan out, but I can't get time doing R&D back..... plus I really don't have the resources to do that right now (my worktable is my kitchen table, the wife really doesn't like that much anyway). Also, my first baby is due on Feb 25th and I think that will probably take some more of my "resources" away.

I believe that you should do it though. You seem to be gaining a massive amount of knowledge about the system, and I would like to see what you come up with.

I've seen some of the posts out there kicking you around a bit, and I don't agree! If everybody was just satisfied with what is out there, then where would we be? It's the American spirit that made us what we are, if we lose that, where will we go? Some of those people are just focusing on the quick buck, not building a business.

Also, about the money. There are 365 days a year and you will probably only work 280. Lets say you profit $200 a day. That's $56000. Subtract the cost of the helicopters, fuel, repairs, etc. That will probably drop you down to $45K. Then taxes. That drops takehome to $31K, and that's if you are doing it by yourself. More than likely you'll have to hire someone, so you pay them $10/hr and you are down to $15K takehome. Then you have the liability of crashing into someone or something. I wouldn't quit my dayjob for this! THIS IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME! It's going to take work to get this off the ground successfully.

That's just my two cents
I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this!

Well stated, I agree a 100%. There is money to be made, but it is considerably more difficult than one would initailly imageine.

I remember flying the nexus, I learned on that platform. I too have shot pictures from the helicopter.

I am sure that It will work, but you might consider a smoother performing helicopter. With the combination of the gear mesh vibration and the wire tail, you are going to see way more vibration in your pictures than you would with something alittle smoother. The tail on the nexus would make me a little nervous lifting anything of value.

I have no experience with the 46's but this is just my two cents.

Thanks flyboy.

My nexus has a carbon fiber pushrod instead of wire, but like I said, I'm going to upgrade to a JR Venture 50 as soon as I can.

I know knothing about the gas models (is this what you call gassers?). I guess I'm going to have to learn a bit about them in the future, i hear that they are much more stable than nitro.
