I am looking at buying a heliscan camera mount for my industrial twin.
Does anyone have one or stories to tell that could help me make up my mind. It looks like a very nice product. 360 pan, gyro's and retractible landing gear.

Hmmmm...

I would do somemore research.
IMO there are much better mounts to be had for less money.
A few of those appear to be made out of square stock aluminum channel and the 50 size one looks like PVC pipe.
Lot of money for materials that can be had for less than 20.00 at the local hardware store.
I could be wrong and somebody with experience with these mounts should comment also.

Heliscan mount looks nothing like an AirFoil

Heliscan mount is obviously made up in a rudimentary construction, its obvious there is no stress calculations applied there to make it, just made everyhintg too big to ensure it wont break.

About all it has in common is it is under the heli.

In fact looks as much like and AirFoil as that other bloke here who built the underslung mount before AirFoil .

Id suggest if Heliscan used Green foamies insted of Orange there would be not one part in common between the two mounts..

Anyone who looked at a Heliscan mount and and thought it was an AirFoil mount I would suggest is either blind or profoundly stupid.

I am blind and stupid, as I think it shares alot of similarity to the airfoil mount.

How does the mount attach to the helicopter does it hang from supple bungie gords like the airfoil system?................ Interesting

I wish I could have gotten the slide show to work as I would like to see the pictures.

It looks like a nice system, and I am sure that they are great people.

I could not be any more pleased with the products & support and quality of photos and video that I get with the airfoil mounts.

Does Airfoil make a mount that will fit on a twin 18lbs+ and likes to give a good shake when spooling up and when slowing down? What I liked about the heliscan is the 360 deg pan. Remote-I looks like they have some nice mounts. I have never used a camera on a heli but I like the way the front mounts look. Would it be possible to video a high speed skier and follow him off a large cliff at 10,000 ft and have good video?

I have been told the industrial twin will fly at 10'000+ with a ten pound load. I was thinking the hard part might be keeping the skier in the view finder and make the shot look steady.

someone starts in on the personal insults.

That wasnt an insult.
It just that you yanks mis undertand Aus language used and take it as an insult when it is not.
Similarly Nth UK language.
Go ask Beav and John at alt.rec.models.helicopter news group on Usenet if you dont beleive me.

Stating that a an Airfoil mount (of a superior construction, and looks it)
Is similar to a ...barbeque stand? is an insult to Airfoil IMV.

I once called it a bar stool design but that was just to take the piss out of John.

Cheers

Flyboy I agree with you
Joe
I was at Taylor, looking at the Industrial Skycam and John introduced you to me. Do you remember my name Tim with Hawkeye Skycam we talked for a long, long time? You were in John’s booth taking lots of pictures and asking a lot of questions. You were even talking to him about becoming a dealer for Airfoil. I remember John saying that could be a possibility he could use some outside marketing.
Joe I have to say your good, real good get in make friends act like you want to be part of John’s team and when he opens up you steal it and run.

Have fun be safe

The world is full of them!

I must say that now that got the slide show to work, I suggest that you work on isolating some of the vibration. The images lack clarity and focus(church jpeg why can't we make out the date @ 20' away). I have shoot nicer pictures with a camera zip tied to my Nexus.

Food for thought.

Joe I put this same post on Rotary and RunRyer
You been asked this question more than once we are all just a little curious why don’t you answer it.

Here’s my question again
I’m a little confused if your camera system is so awesome why is your next heli going to be an observer?? (Nothing against the observer)Most of the guys are switching to the airfoil system so they can shoot gyro stabilize video

Quote from skycan
One thing you said I found odd is you are building camera mounts but your next purchase would be an Observer. I had an Observer and most guys are going to the gyro stabilized
Airfoil mount for video. If your system is great why would you need and Observer?

I have over $500 in parts you can have with the heli.
Deal or not.

Personally this sounds like a real good deal I think you should take it

Joe you asked skycam how are you tied to John
You have no idea the amount of people in the world that are using the airfoil system
The number of people that post on Rotary or runryder is about 1% of his market and to answer your question we’re all tied to John and his products because they kick asssssss

Personally he has given you hundred times more information than I would have. I would have told you to figure it out for your self. When you own a business which you will figure this out eventually you do not give your competition or what might be competition any information on how your design works without knowing that it is protected.
THAT IS BUSINESS Think about it why do you think you and your wife got to see and hear so much about the system in Taylor he knew he was protected.

You talk about liars, after talking to you at the Taylor air show I think you can run with the best of them. You should really go back and read all your posts does this sound like somebody you’d want to do business with? The bottom line is you made a mistake in copying John’s ideas it’s time for you to accepted this and move on. You need to regroup and come up with your own ideas or your neck name might be coming HELISCAM

Have fun be safe

So can the airfoil hold an industrial twin? Does it work well for forward flight?

"I have been told the industrial twin will fly at 10'000+ with a ten pound load."

You might drop ekripper a note and ask about his high altitude experiences with his gasser around Park City.

To who it may concern,
Heliscan originally started with three parteners,me,my wife, and another gentleman who was into high tech agricultural equipment.Prior to this I had been playing around with heli photography for a few years(sold a few shots here and there).Initially,we were going to concentrate on crop photo's and lake home shots(there's no shortage of either hear). If anyone is in an ag area, shots of test plots for seed companys are very useful.I was shocked at all the info they could learn from the color alone, dry spots, diseases of different types, etc.
About 3 or 4 years ago I bought a 22' pontoon and built a 8x12 landing pad for it and began doing lake home shots(shown in my gallery on my site with one of my earlier mounts, which is somewhat like I modeled my frames after)My wife and I shot quite a few photos this way. However,it wasn't easy to land because when people saw us,they wanted to come over and see what was up.When this happened their boats would create much unwanted waves.ROCK AND ROLL!! It seemed like it happened almost every time.So eventually I decided to only do it from shore.Much less stressful. The only downfall is I can't get as far from shore.
Any way,the point is,underslung camera mounts have been around for a lot longer than some would want us to believe. They are by no means new to me or a lot of other people.
