My Posts This: Topic Forum | Just a quick aside... using a flame on plastic is not to burn oil, but is rather referred to as corona treating and can be done with an electric arc as well. What this actualy does, to the best of my knowledge, is to cause the molecules at the surface to stand up like hairs allowing the paint (or adhesive) to have a better mechanical bond. Also, to the best of my knowledge, this process will slowly reverse itself over time, so for best results paint within a day or so of doing this. If the plasic was heated near hot enough to burn oil, the plastic would melt or burn as well, so it's still important to remove oils with a solvent prior to painting.
Also, I would still recommend using a "plastic bumper primer" as a base for paint.
I spent too much time trying to figure out how to bond UHMH and this is one of the things that I researched. |
