I am new to helis, and new to sims. I got the G2 with upgrade #3 so I could have a Raptor 30 (I have a R30 kit, but have not started it yet).

I wanted to master sim flying before even putting the kit together.

But I don't have a clue how to set the sim up to emulate an actual Raptor. All I have done is make it a little bigger...it just looked too small even setting on the ground.

I have selected a HH gyro (on the sim), but don't know what to program into it. It doesn't seem do much good in the wind..the heli always points into the wind. I can get it go with the wind, but it is about like pushing a rope, it really wants to weathervane back nose to the wind. I figure I might as well practice in the wind..it always blows here.

So anyway, I can hover in all orientations, fly around, etc. I am a converting planker, so the flying towards me and flying around is no problem. And I'm able to hover almost dead still till I run out of gas, just pointing the nose different directions with the wind turned down.

But I have a nagging feeling that the real thing is not going to be anything like this!! I just need to know what to change on the sim to try to make it more like a real heli. I hate to think I am practicing something that will turn out to be all wrong.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated!!

It sounds like you're doing OK, if you can hover in the sim you'll be able to hover at the field as long as the mechanical setup is in the ballpark. One-on-one hands-on help from an experienced heli flyer is just about the only way to make sure of that.

I would not worry about getting the sim set up to fly just like a Raptor. Instead, try flying each model in the sim. Get used to flying lots of different models... when you fly for real it will just be another "different model."

Hey, That's a good tip!

Thanks, freestyle!!

I tried the 46 3d Dolphin for a while before I posted a reply. Now that is a little touchier than the R30. I can hover it fine, but not with the wind over about 5~10. I will use this one for a while and get it down.

I guess I was just too scared that I wasn't actually learning anything. I am happy with my progress so far.....but I know the planes in G2 seemed awfully easy to fly. I just don't want to fire my heli up and find out that I really am as bad as I think I will be!

I sure hope I can find someone to look my heli over when I get it built.
