I am just wondering if anyone has built and flown a Raptor 30 kit without getting the ball bearing upgrade. It would seem like Ace offeres it as an option to be able to publish a low kit price but yet everyone probably buys it anyway. I am not against marketing techniques, but then I see Hiraobo include the DTDS and 3rd bearing option on their kits when they could have not included them and lowered the price quite a bit. But maybe their customers want to pay more than a Raptor because that reinforces their notion that it is a superior product (I am not saying it is not superior, just posing a theory that sometimes a higher price is what people want to see).

Hi,

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

Its a bad thing if tt does'nt include the 20 xtra bb's but its a good thing when hirobo gives you a split gear and 3rd bearing block and takes the blades out of the kits?

I know I can fly without the 20 xtra bearings but its gonna be kinda hard to fly without main blades

I'm sure tt left the bearings out to help reduce the price some so they can overcharge for them and sell them seperately (Would you like fries with that?)

Now to really confuse things the tt50 kit comes with a good muffler, 20 xtra bearings, carbon base plate, metal swash, 60 tail grips and hub and paint stir'ers. But they only priced it $30 more than the 30 kit? Guess we wont be gettin fries with that one.

The 550's work out well on the raptor 50 for hard 3d so I dont understand why the 570's would'nt work as well for hard 3d on the sceadu. I am sure there are some people out there that would be better off with the 600's but should'nt the customer ultimately have the choice?

Not bashing the heli but one more marketing thought. Since hirobo is'nt including main blades it was awfull easy for them to blame the blades when woof'n'poof showed up?

Just some thoughts on the subject, I could really care less which is better and am glad both are on the market. I was considering a sceadu but decided to take a good look at it up at toledo, after all the hype I was kinda expecting a tight well designed ship but found it had an awfull lot of slop in the tail, main grips, mixers and cyclics.

To be fair the new caliber 30 was much worse (just as sloppy as a nexus). Personally the venture looked quite a bit better (did'nt see the plastic mount though) but does'nt include things like driven tail and I am not sure if it has full bearings.. From the add "Unlike some helis the venture includes full bearings in the rotor head", kinda implies there are gonna be a lot of bushings everywhere but the rotor head.

There are only a couple of places left where bearings would be: the tail box, the start shaft bearing and the tail drive gear off the main gear. I don't think they'd use bushings in the tail drive gear or tail box. They did use a bearing for the start shaft in the Ergo, so who knows. You won't find 49 ball bearings on this machine because they aren't needed.

Hmm. From Heliproz:

Raptor 30 with 49BB and upgrade muffler is $290. No metal swash.

Raptor 50 is $285 (includes 49BB, good muffler, and metal swash).

Talk about a no brainer! Only the engine costs more, and replacement blades are a little more. And fuel is more.

I would like to see an ARF. Once you built one heli you have built them all.

I am not saying it is good they have left out the extra 20 BBs. I am saying it is logical for them to be able to advertise a lower retail price to draw people in.

When I got started I was very price sensitive because I was not sure I would be able to fly. So it was bad enough when I thought I could get everything I needed for $800 then found out how easy it was to spend $1100 to get all the needed do-dads. My point is, I don't mind spending the money now because I am past the hump of unknown. But for a very new person, they should not be frightened right off the bat.

The Sceadu seems to be targeting a more premium buyer so if they want to include DTDS and more supports and delete the blades in exhange, that is fine. You are not being shortchanged because those blades are worth less than the DTDS and support they exchanged it for. But I think the smartest thing they could have done (for them) was not included any of those and lowered the price another $50. For me, I want it all anyway, so I would like it included for the best value.

Wow, 26 to 0 on the poll. I figured it would be 80 percent, not 100 percent.

I bought one of the early ARF raptors with only 29 ball bearings at a local hobby shop. There was a choice for 29 or 49 bearing ARF's back then.

I'll come out and say that i still have most of those bushings in my R30, and its doing quite well.

i do have a aftermarket mixing levers, plus most of a bearing kit a friend gave me. but, i just havent needed it so far. and this is after 4.5 gallons of fuel through it.

i will eventually change over to bearings, probably when i rebuild it (what we call a 'phase' inspection), and then put in my OS 46 thats coming.
