When I first started this hobby, money was easy to conserve. The cost seemed huge, and it was. Now, as I have been flying for a long time, it seems easier to spend some money. I remember thinking, who would spend $3K on an helicopter? That is insane. Now, I guess that I am insane.

Just yesterday, a friend wanted to buy a 700 ship. I discouraged him, because of his lack of experience and what he wanted to do with it. He really wanted to use it where a multirotor made more sense. I hope that he will listen, I didn't.

Maybe I am the only one that enjoys building helis. I hate ARF stuff you have to pull apart to check anyway.
You're not the only one.

This is why I encourage everyone that is serious about getting started in r/c helis to take up full scale flying for a while. Then you can brag to your self and spouse about how much money you are saving by flying r/c helis.

I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

Yeah... I started there too. Now I really want to go back and fly the real thing... A nice used JetRanger would be lovely.

It would sure be nice to see helicopters and parts dropping like the cost of multi-rotors. Those parts are so easy to manufacture.

My first real RC heli was a nitro Hawk pro and cost me about $1800 to get everything I needed.

I remember thinking who spends this much on a toy. I must have been crazy because it was well above my budget

How the heck do you spend $1800 on a Hawk? I think I had 4 of them and together wouldn't have cost $1800.

Last year I purchased a Trex 550E 3G for $400 already assembled. (ARF)

Additional Items required to make it an RTF.

1. 1ea IKON FBL controller to replace the 3G unit (NEW)

2. 2ea 6S 40C 5000mah Lipo batteries (NEW)

3. 1 ea battery charger (NEW)

4, 1ea JR 9503H 2.4ghz transmitter (USED)

Total cost $900 USD +/- $50 dollars

The amount you listed is very realistic.
